Researchers in Japan and the US have discovered a way to reprogram mature cells into stem cells that can transform into all cell types of the body, including the placenta. Read more from Asian Scientist Magazine at: https://www.asianscientist.com/2019/09/in-the-lab/stem-cells-induce-totipotency/

“Totipotency is the highest order of cell potency: one totipotent cell can form the placenta and the body,” said Kime. “If our system can be improved to fully reach that state, we will be able to improve basic research in the fields of embryogenesis and fertility, as well as basic and clinical research in regenerative medicine.” Read more from Asian Scientist Magazine at: https://www.asianscientist.com/2019/09/in-the-lab/stem-cells-induce-totipotency/

This is very big breakthrough in science and medicine and of course it is coming from RIKEN Institute where Tsuji is part of. It will open new big oppurtunities in future.
