Hi,
I am 18 years old and I have had what I believe to be a receding hairline for about 3 years. It has stayed almost exactly the same since about 2007. The posts by the Dr on the Balding Blog got me thinking about a mature hairline, since it had not receded in such a time.
(I apologise for the relatively low quality pics, but they seem to show my hair quite well)
Are the above pics showing a mature hairline at possibly its most advanced stage or is this my worse fear and is in fact male pattern baldness kicking in for good? Although the pics don't show it, if I lift my brows and do the measuring they are about right according to Dr Rassman's measurements over on the Balding Blog to indicate that this is a maturing hairline. However, what concerns me is the sharp angle of the recession. As I say there has been no real movement of the hairline since 2007 and no thinning etc as of yet anywhere else on my head. I am also not losing excessive amounts, with no visible loss in the shower, on my pillow etc.
Just to let you know, my dad is a Norwood 6 and he too started balding early, but his hair was always very thin and his recession much more rapid (I have my mother's hair characteristics of dark and thick). Aside from my dad there is no other balding, aside from the dad's dad who apparently was thin on top, but I never knew him and my dad doesn't really know the full situation with his hair loss. What is confusing though, is that one of my mother's 3 brothers (all of which retained hair despite one of their grandfather's being close to going off the Norwood scale with his loss!!) has a hairline remarkeable similar to mine and he too had that from an early age with no extra loss.
I just thought that perhaps a bit of background would be useful!
Your thoughts and opinions would be great, thanks!!!
(P.S. I am currently waiting for the results of some blood work to determine that I do or don't have any thyroid issues - how common would it be for hypothyroidism to creat this sort of hair loss? I thought it would be more of an irregular loss, but the fact my doctor is screening me for it leads me to think that perhaps it could cause loss in the style of male pattern baldness? Any ideas?)
