I get confused trying to understand the distinction between a receding hairline and a mature hairline as well.

From what I have read it sounds like a mature hairline happens through the same process as balding (miniaturisation) but that your hairline just stops moving back utlimately. it seems as though if your hairline never hits a NW3 and is not diffuse hairloss then its just a mature hairline. I stand to be corrected on this though so keen on other thoughts.

That being the case maybe it is only something that can be determined over time as in several years,

I have been wondering if I have a mature hairline as it I have had the same slightly receded hairline for at least 16 years and maybe longer. I cant tell if it has changed or not. But one side of my hairline is NW2 and the other NW2.5 with no diffuse hairloss.

It still sucks though. I would rather have a nice tight hairline. Even if both sides were NW2 rather than asymmetrical I would be happy.

You have male pattern baldness, im your age and have exact same looking hairline. Is your dad bald? Id say you are NW1.5

Receding, you might consider treatment or just wait. Not too bad yet.

@Joseph Kent that is not correct to say. Maybe he will maybe he wont. I had some hairline recession 20 years ago at age 17 and its now barely changed and in fact I cant tell whether or not it has. So maybe I have a mature hairline or maybe the recession is incredibly slow. But it is very difficult to predict what will happen.
