hey Ive been obsessing about my hair for the past 6 months cause ever since i

buzzed my long hair that ive had for my entire life i noticed my hairline was

receded like a lot at the corners. i then proceeded to look up stuff about

hairlines and ran into receding hairlines and male pattern baldness on Google and saw the first

sign is that the corners go away so then i panicked. since then Ive been to

about 3 different people. one was an actually dermatologist who i see regularly

for acne and am on acutane right now and have been for the past 3 months. he

basically said im crazy and that im not balding especially with knowing that male pattern baldness

doesnt run at ALL on my dads side(like no1s ever gone bald ever) but on my

moms side the only 2 people that are balding are my one uncle and one or two

of my cousins. now the second was a wig specialist and he looked at my hair

and said im not balding and shouldnt even have to worry until im like 50. and

the third was a free appointment with bosley and the guy was extremely nice

and informative and he told me im just getting what is called a mature hairline

and that almost everyone gets it. now i just wanna make sure this is true and

get a second opinion from you guys. heres are some pics of my hair now:

thanks at this point i really just need some clarification in this so i can stop worrying about this or even know if my worrying is justified. also do you think it would be wise, and this is if you guys are having difficulty seeing if its mature or male pattern baldness, to order propecia online and just take that for like a year maby just as like a precautionary method? thanks

I dont see anything to make me think its anything other than just a mature hairline. Its better than I had at any age.

omg why does it take so long to get replys from people? all i want is some advice

I hate to tell you this but it looks worse than I my hair at your age and I'm going bald. Everyone is different so it is possible you will stay that way, but you're hairline maturing at 17 isn't a good sign.

I would say he definitely has a 100% normal hairline for a 17 year old. I don't know any guys who had a straight "baby" hairline at that age.

I have to agree with this. "Mature" hairlines at a young age are in my opinion the start of male pattern baldness. The odds of your hairline staying mature are slim unless you develop it later in life.

Give it a couple years and see where you are then. You're too young to go on finasteride and there is no way to know right now if it's male pattern baldness for sure so all you can do is try to put it out of your mind and reassess down the road.

I highly doubt that. I'm in my mid 20s and I see it all the time in my age group.

Of my four closest friends I've noticed in the past 2 months they've all receded.

The first receded way more than I thought. He's probably been losing hair since before I did, he just cut it kind of short and brushed it to the side. He's probably a NW3 to be honest...still thick though. I think his hairline is going to be like this, it's close to it already: http://hairloss.urbanbargain.com/_libra ... od-sg3.jpg

The second has a prominent widow's peak and shaves his head at the beginning of every summer...most of you would probably call him a solid NW2 but since it's a widows peak design I'm leaning more to a 1.5 or so. The rest of his hair is REALLY thick and it grows in such a way that it naturally starts covering up his temples

A third has always had "Bieber" hair but I've noticed recently its breaking apart and not quite the forehead-shield i used to be. Probably moved to a NW2 or something, no miniaturized looking hairs hanging out.

The fourth I'm not sure about, he's always had shorter hair but I've noticed him keeping it longer recently. His dad has awesome hair for 50-ish years old, but I'm not sure sure he inherited it.

hey i heard that accutane speeds of male pattern baldness and since i started taking a while after i noticed my hairline do you think that when im done with the 6 month treatment and my hair stays pretty much the same do you think thats a sign that its not male pattern baldness? cause if it was male pattern baldness wouldnt the acutane cause me to be like a nw5 by the time im done?

also ive never once noticed a single hair fall off my head any time whatsoever unless ive actually pulled one out. sign that its not male pattern baldness? or is it too early for that?

okay i just bought 90 tabs of finpecia and a pill cutter from inhouse. im just gonna take this stuff for the rest of the year and see what happens.

i have some questions, is it bad for me to take this in any way at my age? im turning 18 in literally less than a week. i dont care about any of the sides like loss of libido or anything. the only thing im worried about is the possible brain fog and losing muscle mass. are these common symptoms? and about losing muscle mass, does this happen to everyone cause i was looking at peabodys thread and he is jacked while still taking finpecia. Ive also heard two sides to the storie, some say is weakens your muscle while others say it makes you stronger due to the extra testosterone floating around. which one is true?

I graduated high school in June. About 65% of guys had buzz cuts and I can only think of 2 or 3 who had a typical low, straight baby hairlines. They all had temples, not massive ones, but it definitely wasn't the hairline they had when they were 5.
I always notice baby hairlines on guys my age because it is very rare, I almost never see them.

I can't see the rest of the OP's face to see exactly where the hairline reaches back too, but it definitely doesn't look out of the ordinary. Small temples are completely normal on a 17 year old.

OP: I would really, really suggest you rethink taking finasteride. It doesn't look like you have any hairloss to me.

Thats a big negative. The vast majority of of 17 year olds have a razor straight hairline across their foreheads.

I don't know what planet you live on, but almost all high school kids have juvenile hairlines.

I don't have scientific data to back this up, but I absolutely believe that accutane will start the male pattern baldness process earlier than it otherwise would have started. I have great hair genes on my father's side and hair loss on my mother's side that typically started in the mid 20's. My hairline started maturing immediately after I took accutane and I was only 15. MANY of the guys on here who took accutane started noticing the initial stages of male pattern baldness shortly after their accutane treatments. I know for example Superfrankie is 23 and Norwood 5 after taking accutane. I wish there could be studies done to see if men who took accutane generally go bald earlier. It drives me crazy to think I could have brought this on earlier with my own actions. Anyway, 17 is too young for finasteride, I would use rogaine and/or nizoral for now if it really bothers you. In a couple years see where you are and then consider finasteride.

idk i already ordered finpecia so im prob just gonna end up taking it. and your right about the juvenile hairline. most kids in my highschool have razor straight hairlines while some have slightly mature round ones and even a handful ive noticed are most definitely starting to bald like me.

What do you consider a juvenile hairline?

When I say juvenile, I mean the hairline they had when they were 10. This would be an example...
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_f09YP6bu4Vw/T ... or+Men.jpg

I only know very 2-3 17 year olds with a hairline like that. They all have very small temples, which is completely normal at that age.
This is the kind of hairline which is most common among 17 year olds...
http://0.tqn.com/d/mensfashion/1/0/M/w/57645130.jpg

Far, far from balding but not the same juvenile hairline they had when they were little kids. I see these people all the time and I have first, second, third grade year books to compare them to.
