Ok heres the thing, Ive been noticing some slight thinning of my hair for a while now but never paid much attention to it since my hair was excessively thick in the first place so it wasnt really that noticeable. I went to a dermatologist a while back and he told me that slight thinning is more than normal and for the moment i didnt have any clear signs of male pattern baldness. Anyway about 2 months ao I got pretty bad dandruff and started using nizoral 2% and it immediately stopped the dandruff and irritation. Thing is my hair thinned in an absurd way. My hair was fairly thick about two months ago. I just dont think this is normal. Anyway here are some pics:
This is my hair around early august:

Ill have to get an appointment with a dermatologist to see whats going on after I finish finals. male pattern baldness is definitely in my family considering that both my older brothers lost their hair around 18-20 yrs old. By the way Im 23 soon to be 24. Any thoughts, is this because of nizoral?, can male pattern baldness sheds be so agressive? Ive used nizoral before and never experienced this, then again this time i used nizoral like everyday. since i noticed this Ive lowered my nizoral dose to 1-2 per week. Ive also been taking B-100 supplements and Inositol caps.

Could be. I personally cannot use nizoral due to a bad scalp reaction to it. I had a pretty bad shed after using it for a couple of weeks. My scalp got all oily and my hair actually changed color---became reddish---from nizoral.

I've become quite scared of using Nizoral. My hair gets greasy and thin after 2 days of using it, but I get thick hair after comin straight out the shower. I also have random cycles of shedding. At the moment I'm not shedding as much, but sometimes when I use Nizoral I suffer a massive shed.

Ok so should I stop nizoral completely and see what happens? Is it normal? If its not nizoral can you loose thta much ground in just 1 1/2 months with male pattern baldness? If it is due to nizoral, how long does it take to recover from sheds? Im freaking out. Anyway Im not gonna let this the best of me Im gonna go see the derm anyway and get finasteride if I have to.

I had a massive shed starting Nizoral ... my hands were full of hair every time I used it. Lasted for about 6 weeks. After that it stopped and I regrew the lost hair.

nizoral made my hair "transparant"..that's how a friend of mine called it.

Scalp irritation can cause brutal sheds. Just had one now, because for some stupid reason I started washing my hair once or twice DAILY with T/Gel Forte. It's a great shampoo, but only if you use it once or twice a WEEK.

The good news is that as soon as you remove the reason for your scalp irritation and let your scalp heal, your hair will come back.

Thats a relief, scalp irritation is zero right now so heres hoping that my hair will get back to normal soon. Thanks for the replies guess ill play the waiting game. Oh btw Im not getting my hopes up or anything, I know keto doesnt work as a stand alone treatment, but could this shed mean that my hair might grow thicker once it comes back?

Conspiracy theories about Nizoral is trivial.

Is there a reason that in the entire thread there is no mention of DHT or finasteride?

The real focus for you should be the fact that your 2 brothers went bald at ages 18-20 (KETO did that?) and your last photo, I can see scalp through hair that is starting to look diffuse. Yes yes yes yes there are thousands of people that would give anything for hair like yours but I am saying it looks like you are going to have to get on finasteride sooner or later if you are serious about keeping your hair.

OKAY give me a break people, I know many will think the last photo is fine but at 24 years old, I see some diffuse hair due to thinning. I am mid 40s and have thicker hair.

I completely agree with you my friend. Ive been on the look out for signs of hair loss ever since my brother lost theirs( Ive been kinda paranoid jeje) and I guess that even though this current shed might be because of keto its still a warning flag. Thats why Im going to see a dermatologist and hear whta he has to say. Im not willing to lose my hair just yet and unlike my brothers Im gonna try to fight this until the end. So if I have to take finasteride ill give it a shot and see how that goes.
Oh and btw I dont think my last photo is fine, as you can see from my other 2 pics my hair is very thick and not see through like the last one. One of my brothers is Norwood 4 and the other is a diffuse NW5(which is the pattern Im starting to see). Anyway thanks for your input.

Hi there, maybe you should try stopping nizoral for a couple of months, and see if your hair improves before jumping on finasteride? I've tried Nizoral a few times before (although this was several years ago), and each time I used it, it irritated my scalp, and I noticed that a lot more hair would come out after I used it. Normally, at that time, I would only lose around 15 hairs in the shower drain, but after using nizoral, there would be around 50- enough to cover the drain. I stopped using it after seeing this happen a few times.
Anyways, good luck!

I experienced something very similar to you over almost exactly the same time frame almost at exactly the same time. Everything happened for me probably about a month earlier than you. Wierd.

I too am hoping that the thinning was caused by nizoral as I used it everyday for a while and every 2nd day for quite some time. In the meantime I have jumped on finasteride and I have been using minoxidil for around 6 months. I have also stopped using nizoral.

I think that my hair has got thicker in the last couple of months however its hard to say definitively as I buzzed it off and have been keeping it between a 1-2. I may let it grow out now and then i will be able to tell for sure.
