Hey guys, im 18 and iv noticed for a while that my crown area has been growing slower than the rest of my head... the sides and front seem to be growing at same rate :dunno:
i also noticed iv been losing hair in the shower maybe about like 10-17 strands every wash.. and also when i comb/run my hands through my hair.
and its weird because most of the hair loss from what i can see is patchy...
enough of me ranting il link some pictures... any suggestions on what it might be and how to treat it would be appreciated.

Thanks. :innocent:

Not gunna lie it does look pretty thin.

I would get to a dermatologist or at least a GP about this. Given your age and the fact it's an atypical pattern (i.e. not receding hairline), you'll want to get it checked out.

It doesn't look like male pattern baldness to me. In those pictures it looks like you've got localised loss to the left of your crown in an abnormal fashion (i.e. not the normal round crown loss as seen on the Norwood Scale). It's kind of hard to tell from the pics though - one on the rear looks like classic male pattern baldness, the other one - nothing like it.

Do you wear any hats or anything that would rub on your head in that area? (traction alopecia perhaps?) :dunno:

It could be Alopecia Areata (small "patches" of baldness) but tbh most Alopecia Areata forms as small patches of completely slick baldness, rather than the odd diffuse patchiness you've got, so to me that seems unlikely too.

Otherwise tbh... I've no idea. I don't think it's male pattern baldness. I would not take finasteride, or minoxidil. It could be something fungal perhaps (I've no idea, I know nothing about these types of alopecia) - maybe it's worth trying Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo and seeing if it improves.

Definitely worth going to a Doctor and getting it checked out though.

:dunno:

yea i use to have long hair with a tight hair style near the middle of my head.
i just cut it couple months ago. Im thinking its Traction Alopecia... is it reversible?

How could it be traction alopecia? Have you had anything pulling on the follicles to do that? You'd really need to be a compulsive hair puller or to have some sort of weave/extension to get traction problems in most cases.

More likely is either plain old male pattern baldness (which doesn't always follow a normal pattern), alopecia areata, or telogem effluvium. The latter two potentially seem more serious but have a better chance of reversal than male pattern baldness.

i use to have a turban, so my hair was always tied in a tight bun and kept under wrap.

Arguably, that could cause this. It's something you'll need to see a dermatologist about anyway, and they can take a look and talk you through the issues.

you really cannot tell a whole lot from those pictures they are really grainy. you should post a few taken in a brighter environment and of your hairline it might give a better idea of whether or not you have male pattern baldness.

i think this post does bring to light an excellent option for men suffering from male pattern baldness.. join a religion that involves wearing a turban!
