Hi guys, I came across this forum and been reading up on a few things and I had a few questions. Im 21 years old and for about the past year and a half my hair has become very thin on the top and my hairline is receding just a little bit. Ive had a weird hairline since I was about 15 or 16 and its just going back a little more as I get older. Anyways, when I was 19 I noticed the hairline going back a little more but didnt think much of it. Then when I turned 20 I realized that the hairline went back a little more towards the temples, but now my hair was thinning on top. I started using minoxidil then and didnt see much of anything but kept using it and still am. In December of 2011 I was at my dermatologist and she just asked me if my dad was bald and I told her yes and she glanced at my head and prescribed me 1mg of Propecia. I just stopped taking it because it didnt seem to be doing too much.

Now this leads to my question. I have a really oily scalp like I can wash my hair in the morning and by lunchtime my hair is oily, greasy and nasty. I usually keep my hair cut short but if I let it grow longer the sides of my hair will grow normal and the hair on top will grow longer too but its really thin and doesnt grow as thick as the sides do. I was reading that if I do a tug test on my hair and if you can pull out more than 4 or 5 hairs that still have the white bulb attached to the bottom it could be telogen effluvium. When I pull the hairs out they do have the bulbs on the bottom and when I do it I can pull out like 7 or 8 hairs at a time but only on the top of my head. So from what I described can this be male pattern baldness or should I go see another doctor to check for something else? Also if its any help the only people in my family who are bald are my dad who has been bald since he was about 26-27 and his brother who is about 40 now and is almost completely bald but not like my dad. My dads other brother is in his 50s and not bald and no one else on my dads side is bald. My moms side has just her uncle who was bald.

Receded temples, thinning on top, family history of balding... Sorry to say but yes, it does sound like male pattern baldness.

That sounds like male pattern baldness to me.

Everyone here says if you have a family history you will be bald, I disagree. It just ups the chances. But receding hairline, only thinning on top... thats Male Pattern Baldness. If you think we are wrong, you can go to the doctor and ask to get your thyroid and iron checked. Those are probably the two biggest CTE (Chronic Telogen Effluvium) causes. Think about it this way... 95% of hair loss in men is male pattern baldness, you have classic showing (less hair on top, receding temples.. thick hair on the sides and back) of it.

Can CTE (Chronic Telogen Effluvium) make you go bald in the same way as male pattern baldness? is there anything what can make you go bald like male pattern baldness?

Do you guys think I should just continue with minoxidil and go back on Propecia? I mean I literally ran out of Propecia about a week ago and have been wondering if I should keep using it. I had no side effects from it, but I didnt really notice anything happening when I was on it, but I was only on it for 9 or 10 months so maybe I should keep at it. Also where do you guys buy it from because I have a prescription for it and the pharmacy charges like $70 for a month of it which is getting to be ridiculous haha.

Just follow this....

Quickly return to finasteride without any further delay. You are already half way through it and you do not wanna lose the possible benefits coming; or else you may have to start all over again and wait for another cycle of over a year or two. You do not have sides, so there is nothing to lose to complete the full assessment at about 18-24 month period

Oily hair and bad quality etc. are further proof of Androgenetic Alopecia in addition to what you described above. You most likely have Androgenetic Alopecia. T usually does that to skin and hair. You might also be having oily skin and/or acne etc.

If your thinning and loss of hair diameter etc., became worse recently or after starting finasteride., then it might be a sign that finasteride is about to kickstart new healthier hair, possibly

You have not mentioned but what did you observe on minoxidil use.

use online pharmacies, dirt cheap. And buy 5mg proscar or it generic for even better deal
