Since 2016 I have been experiencing excessive hair shedding, and my hair is noticeably thinner. It occurred very suddenly. The attached photos show my hairline. Not sure what Norwood I am. Should I be worried? I initially shaved my head but as it grew back the excessive shedding occurred again. My hair also suddenly became noticeably curlier and unmanageable which I put down to the thinning.

nw2 my friend. How old are you?
Thanks, I’m 23. My dad has receded temples. It’s just the sudden shedding and thickness change which has been a bit of a concern. It’s quite hard to style with the gaps at the temples.

Perfect time and age to get on finasteride- you're definately old enough to take it, and not too far gone. Hell you might even get some back in the thinning areas. I'm 36, and the only thing I regret is not getting on it back when I was your age. I just got on it, 2 1/2 months, no side effects, and already starting to see results. Do yourself a favor, before it goes bye-bye; because if it's already at norwood 2 territory at 23, and you're seeing a lot more shedding along the way, my guess is you'll be visibly balding to even lay people within 2 years.

Oh, and nevermind talking about how your dad is only a little worse than yours, etc. It's of no matter, you're already visibly receding at 23. chances are you're going to be fucked.

To be honest, I’d prefer a transplant to taking meds. I’m a bit unsure about taking medication for things. Plus I don’t think I’d mind being bald. Just not at this age as I feel I wouldn’t suit it yet!

Most definitely male pattern baldness. Right now it’s pushing Norwood 3 territory. Don’t bother with a transplant if you’re not going to take an anti-androgen. The donor hair may not fall out but the recession will continue behind it leaving you with an orphaned hairline that looks worse than a receded one.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I’ll just have to see how it goes. In my case then, excessive shedding is definitely part of male pattern baldness as it’s been going on for three years.
