male pattern baldness or mature hairline ? (with pics)

Hi everybody,

First of all, I apologize for the mistakes to come, I'm French and not used with writing in English (and I'm not even talking about hairloss vocab )

I've been worrying a lot about my hairline. I'm 21 years old, and it's quite high.

Let's take a look at my family  :
- in my mother's side, everybody has kept his hair till death. They all have a very high hairline like me, forming a U, and which looks like a rectangle when you face them. My mother also has this incredibly high hairline, that looks just like mine.
- in my father's side, men have male pattern baldness. My grandfather started to lose his hair at 45, and my father just started losing it (he's 47, and one can barely see the top of his skull, if he bends). However, my father started taking minoxidil when he was 30 (he had a lot of problems with his hair, and seeing that his father had male pattern baldness, he was advised to take minoxidil). They have (or had) a lower hairline, forming a V.

And me ... well, even if i look like my father, i must admit i have the typical hairline of my mother's family (when i come back home for Christmas, i'll take pics of my mom to post them here). And I've had it since i was 14 (my mom says i always had, but the first pics that prove it were taken when i was 14 or 15...). There hasn't been any receding since, i've got thick and dense hair.

So, considering the pics below, what do you think ? Is it indeed my "mother's side mature hairline" ? If so, does this mean i've got chances to have a male pattern baldness less pronounced than my father and my grandfather ?
And, above all, will i have the great relief to know that it'll probably take a few years (let's say 10 :hairy: ) before noticing a real receding (or something else) ?

Thanks in advance,

kirbyyy

PS: Right now, i've got quit long hair (to hide this hairline). I tried to "put them up" to take the pics, but they have tendency to "fall", which gives the impression that my hairline is beetween a U and a V, whichis not the case; i'll try to take another pic to show it more clearly.

Pshh, you're fine now, mine's far worse than yours and I'm your age. You don't have diffuse, and you aren't receding a ton, just go live life, your hair wont get any better than that. You do seem to have male pattern baldness though, and it seems to be more thinned than a "mature hairline". (I don't like that term, I don't think it's real). Acutally if I wasn't a diffuse/receder, I'd have your hairline right about now, I mean, I do have it but the diffuese thinning has taken the middle of my hairline. Otherwise it's like yours.

Meh, don't let it worry you, start some treatments if you want, not sure if you have or not, I just scanned the post. I mostly just looked at the pics. Maybe get on finasteride, Nizoral, MsM, and maybe fish oil. You wont need Rogain (minoxidil) for a long while imo. Well, maybe at the temples.

You're lucky, try having diffuse and receding like I do, not much I can do about it. I WISH I could just treat my temples like you can.

yeah your temples are receding. not just a mature hairline. go to a dermatologist and ask him about finasteride(drug name for Propecia and Proscar. Consider Rogaine too if you want to try to regrow your temples, because finasteride probably won't do it alone. Also, start using Nizoral shampoo with ketoconazole as the active ingredient(buy it at your supermarket or pharmacy) once every 3 days or twice a week, whatever's easy to remember. Leave it in your hair for five minutes then wash out. Follow with conditioners.

Take pictures at least every 2 months and upload them here so your progress can be judged.

Good luck

your temple regions receeded yet your hairline seems to be fine, I think it might be the beginning of male pattern baldness.

Consult with a derm if you can.

thanks everybody for your answers, but i've got a question (maybe due to my limited vocabulary): how can my temples be receding if i have that exact pattern for about 7 years ? i've got a pic when i was 14 (i.e when my puberty started) and it's exactly the same (temples included).

Maybe i've directly moved to a Norwood"don't know what number" and it will stabilize till (for instance) i'm 45, (when male pattern baldness really started for my father and grandfather).

Do you think it's possibe, considering my family history and my mom's typical hair pattern ?

I was talking about the temple regions at the sides of your head, not the temples that belong to part of your hairline.

Whats your family history? do you have hairs that are miniaturizing? or notice hairs becoming much shorter and less pigmented then they used to be? If your losing hair or have lost hair its pretty obvious and then its propecia or rogain.
