Anyone have advice on how to tackle the itch ?

I use nizoral 1% once every 5 or 6 days. Along with 1.25 finasteride daily for almost 3 months. The itchy scalp comes and goes but lately it's been crazy. Felt like my scalp was on fire the other day.

Yeah.... that's not a good sign. From my experience, itchiness always accompanies a shed.

On the bad side, you might need to anticipate a shed.

On the good side, sheds usually come, and then go... with stabilization and an end to the itchiness on the back end.

Right now, I would try to avoid using anything inflammatory on your scalp. Check your hairspray and styling products... can you make an effort to minimize them? And in addition to the nizoral, you might want to introduce a second anti-dandruff component, such as Head and Shoulders shampoo and cycle that in every five days.

Thanks for the reply. I don't really use any products besides a very very small amount of gel to style the front and cover my receding hairline. I was thinking about trying head and shoulders shampoo...

And btw it was my crown that was burning.

Having the male pattern baldness itch isn't always associated with miniaturization, but it certainly is no good thing to have since it's quite bothersome, and especially if you suffer from it on a daily basis. I still get the itch but my hair loss is stabilized.

I have the craziest itch since I started shedding last November and I just found something great to improve it.
I have added topical Tea Tree essential oil in my regimen, I only used it two times but it stopped my itch instantly. Hope it can be useful for others :)

I've read online that Nizoral contains "sodium lauryl sulfate" (i.e "sodium laureth" sulfate), which can dry out your scalp. I found this to be true, for myself, but others might get different results. I've found better results for myself by leaving Regenepure DR on my scalp for at least 10 minutes.

BTW, in my younger years I noticed that my crown itched all the time, so I scratched my crown a lot which produced a white dandruffy substance in my fingernails. I assumed that white substance was either dandruff or shampoo residue, but it might have been DHT buildup. Anyways, I believe the combination of an itchy scalp and constant scratching of the crown resulted in my very thin crown. Try not to use your fingernails too much when scratching your crown. That's just my personal advice, because I think that contributed to my male pattern baldness on the crown.

I think the ONE thing that finally resolved my scalp inflammation / itch was a compounded minoxidil cream. either that, or just getting off of finasteride, because I did both at the same time. The cream does have hydrocortisone, which I have always responded well to. Another thing that seems to help me is tar shampoo.
