so my hair's been receding for a while now in a weird pattern, pics from the last thread I posted.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=64318

since I have absolutely 0 history of balding in my family, I thought I couldn't possibly have male pattern baldness. Unfortunately, my temples are seriously thinning out now, and my blood tests said that my thyroid levels are normal. After reading all the horror stories though...I'm scared to start any sort of treatments. Using nioxin/regenpure and other shampoos have obviously not helped at all. Any suggestions for me? Should I try minoxidil only or propecia first? I'm always in the minority when it comes to side effects, which is why I'm so scared.

Maybe reading propeciahelp.com was a bad idea...but it's hard to ignore that many people experiencing sides.

You're always in the minority when it comes to side effects? Sounds like you're scared of medicine in general brah

Honestly I se no male pattern baldness. It may be in its very early stages but really at this point I would say you're fine.

If you are THAT worried about keeping your help, then propecia (by and large) is the answer. 90% of men either maintain or regrow hair while on propecia. Side's are always a possibility with any drug, so you gotta decide how much keeping your hair is worth to you.

I gree that reading propeciahelp is a bad idea...IF you take all of their ideas to heart. The thing about people is this: you're 100x more likely to complain than you are to praise. What happens at work if you do what you're suppose to do? Nothing. What happens if you f*** up? You get your *** chewed.

The placebo effect is just that...if you think you'llget sick (or sides),then you prolly will. Not saying that no one gets sides, just that you should never go into something expecting the worst.

Propeciahelp scared me away from propecia for 2 years. Finally I took the plunge. No sides, and I've maintained my hair. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner.

(I am not your doctor. Do some more research and talk to a doctor or derm if you have questions. Or, send me a PM and I'll tell you my full story)

well my hairline has been receding since I was around 16 I think, just very slowly. I noticed because I could no longer maintain some of my original hairstyles. If I look at pictures from before, my hairline is at least an inch lower. The reason why I'm so sure of it now is because the temples started thinning severely (there's now a huge gap), and my dermatologist told me it is male pattern baldness (but honestly I don't know how much she knows about male pattern baldness, she said: I can either prescribe you propecia, it's expensive. Or you can try rogaine, but rogaine doesn't help the hairline).

When I'm say i'm always in the minority when it comes to side effects, I meant there were two times when I experienced the stated rare side effects for different meds I took which both had permanent damages. The thing about propecia that scares me the most is that there were a ton of people who said they experienced long lasting sides just after they popped their first pill...

Propecia is expensive because it's name brand. Get the off brand and it's much cheaper. Get it from an online pharm and it's cheaper still. A year for less than $200.
