Losing fat itself is not harmful for hair at all, but the process to losing fat could be dangerous. A lot of people tend to eat way less than usual when they are on diet, which results in lack of nutrition. Since scalps are starved of necessary nutrition, they fall out as a result. Losing some fat in a long period definitely does not cause hair loss. Crash or rapid weight loss on the other hand can be detrimental for hair loss. My hair loss began from one and I've seen many people who lost hair from going on severe diet.

I don't think my weight loss caused my hair loss but mine definitely started around the time i lost a lot of weight and then gained a bit back. It was during the last year and a half that i was working this one job, that was so stressful i stopped sleeping properly and my diet went crazy bad. I lost probably 10-15kgs and then gained a bit back in the same year.
Probably just coincidence. I don't imagine all the stress and bad diet were any good for my hair either though.

i should probably add i had to quit that job because it caused my anxiety to become unbearable and i was having panic attacks before i even got to work.
