do not go together. Guys, anyone else in here studying broadcasting journalism in college? My hair thinning out has definitely affected my confidence in front of the television lights. Those insanely bright lights penetrate right through my hair and illuminate my scalp. It is really embarassing, let me tell you. It's hard to tell my hair is thinning in normal circumstances, but as soon as I get in front of the teleprompter- yikes. I'm seriously thinking I may have to think of another career or to only do live reports. I've gone from a really confident reporter/anchor to someone who is self conscious in front of the camera. Not a good deal if that is to be my profession. I used to have hair like this :hairy: lol- seriously though, a perfect head of helmet hair- life sucks sometimes. I'd hate to say losing my hair shatter my dreams. I don't see too many bald broadcasters out there. :x Anyone else dealing with this problem?

Move to Sweden. I don't know why, but we have lots of bald or seriously balding TV-people.

Yes you do, I spend quite a bit of time in Sweden and I have noticed this also. The thing is that not only are they going bald, they are all pig ugly as well.

You'll notice that 90% of our TV new personalities have perfect heads o' hair. Much like politians, strangely. However, I'd be willing to bet that at least half of them have had some kind of work (rugs, an hair transplant, or meds).

dude tell me about it....im in a band a band thats trying to get commercially succesful hopefully one day...not only that but i run around all over the place when im on stage so it literaly looks like i stepped out of the shower after im done...totaly kills my confidence and makes me believe that the thinning hair will put a huge dent in the commercial sucess chances of our band....honestly if i didnt want to do this for a living hair loss might not bother me as much

First of all, you're not alone. I'm in the broadcasting business and there are plenty of guys balding. But, we use a lot of things to conceal it. I've worked with plenty of people with hair tranplants and toupees. For the most part though, people use concealers. My hair loss is not really noticable by the naked eye, but under the lights, it's very evident. I use Toppik and it works wonders. I know plenty of people who use Dermmatch as well.

As for your dream, don't let hairloss effect it. I won't lie to you and say that thinning hair or being bald doesn't turn off some news directors, but there are plenty of exceptions. Use concealers in the meantime and do everything you can to keep the hair you have. If you keep advancing in the business and it becomes a bigger issue, than maybe you can consider a hair tranplant. Overall though, once you're in the business and established, hair loss is rarely a reason to knock you out of a job.

Good Luck!

You're in the broadcasting business? Want to help me land a job? lol No, seriously, where do you find that Toppik stuff? Can you get in a regular store? Thanks for your response; it was inspiring.

Toppik has to be ordered from the company over the phone or on-line. You can just go to Toppik.com for information. I will warn you though, some people have complained that they don't like it. I think it really depends on your hair color. Since you said you're only thinning a bit, it most likely will be effective.

For the most part, people on this website think it's a good concealer. Just remember, it is just a concealer. It does *not* slow down your hair loss.

BTW, I wish I could help you with a job, but I'm sure you've heard it many times already, it's a tough business.

Again, Good Luck!

Yes, I've heard that MANY times. Every broadcasting professor I've ever had has said it. It's really tiring. You all had to break into it somehow, lol.
