Hi, I just wondered if anyone could tell me is this pattern baldness or something else? it seems to be getting worse. I thought it was pattern baldness at first but I'm not so sure now. Its only thinning on the top too not the back and sides. I am 36 years old, been like this for a few months now. Im really worried about it, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dude, male pattern baldness, similar to my pattern, so I feel your pain.

Get on meds if you want to save it.

thanks for your reply . . it's really worrying me as I have always had really thick hair . . I didnt realise how bad it was until I took pics from above . . I'm thinking of just shaving it now but can't bring myself to do it. Scary how fast it's thinning though, started with me noticing a few hairs coming out really easily.

Yeah that head is finite, finasteride is your only option, and I'd throw minoxidil in as well. That dome is anorexic thin at this point.

It's diffuse rather than classic hairline recession...each one has it's pros and cons but because I'm diffuse too, it feels worse. Although my hairline is receding as well.

Hi Guys, thank you for your replies I really appreciate it. I have been to my doctor today as I am so concerned about how fast it has thinned out. He is sending me for blood tests to check for iron deficiency? ? . . However, he did say he thinks it is balding. He asked about my dad's and my grandads hair . . both of which are grey, quite thick but with classic receding and back bald patch. My is starting to look ridiculous to be honest . . now I'm scared that if I shave it I will end up with the 'horseshoe' hair. Have you guys shaved your hair off?

Hi guys, so I have had the blood test results back and there is no iron or vit deficiencies. The doctor has advised that it is most likely male pattern baldness. But, as I have a really dry flaky scalp he recommends dry scalp shampoo. So I have been using the shampoo and my scalp is much better but I'm noticing a lot of hairs coming out when I wash my hair. Is this normal for male pattern baldness? I have also now purchased Propecia but for some read on I can't bring myself to take it. So the only option is to shave it all off but I'm thin and pale so I don't think this would be a good look. Also, I have read that shaving the head isn't good for diffuse thinning but I'm not sure why this is?

So my bloods all came back as normal with no iron or vit deficiencies. The doctor has advised that it is most likely male pattern baldness. Now the only thing I have noticed is quite a lot of hairs coming out when I wash my hair . . is this normal for male pattern baldness?

Yes, a lot of hairs will fall out, that's what male pattern baldness is, if it is very aggressive. Some people can lose all their hair in like a year or two, as crazy as that sounds.

The same happened to me at roughly the same age, it is pretty painful thing to go through. With various treatments you can get it to thicken up but unfortunately I don't think it is possible to return back to where you was (at least for me). Shaving your hair wont affect the pattern you bald, that is completely genetic.

It sounds like you also have seborrheic dermatitis, in fact my hairloss was directly after my own started to flare up. I suggest you try "Nutregena T-Gel for greasy hair" it is the one with piroctone olamine in it. I also suggest a scalp exfoliation to git red of all the dead skin you might have built up.

Also did you Doctor check your Vitamin D and Zinc levels?

thanks for replying guys. Mr.robot I am now using a dry scalp shampoo to try and help the flaky scalp and it does seem to be working.Scalp is still itching though. So . . the idea of shaving my head was to try and hide the thinning but my concern is that hairs on the back and side will grow back quicker and gives the dreaded 'horseshoe' hair. Plus, I am very pale and I don't think the shaved head would be a good look. Only other option is propecia which I now have but I am worried about taking after reading the about side effects.
