I have been taking finasteride for 1 year now with good results. I want to add Maca to my regimen to help me in the bedroom department. I don't necessarily need a boost as my sides are manageable. However it is a personal decision. I just want my libido to be higher. I have also read excellent things about Maca regarding anxiety and overall well being.

My question is this. Will taking Maca affect my hair negatively? All of my research on this and other forums does not turn up much. Most people seem to think it helps. However I want to be extra careful.

All of my research confirms that maca does not raise testosterone or affect hormones.

Even IF maca somehow raised my testosterone to a degree. Would this even matter for someone taking 1mg of finasteride?

Anyone have experience with Maca?

Unfortunately, there is a lack of strong evidence with respect to Maca to counter the grandiose anecdotal claims. That is true of virtually all herbal supplement. Off the top of my head, the only supplements out there right now with even decent documentation in their support are vitamin D3, fish oil, and creatine. And that's for general health. For hair health? Nothing.

Which doesn't mean that nothing is good for your hair. What it means is that they have not looked properly. In general it would be great to have a study where 200 men take maca for a year, another 200 take tongkat ali, and so on, but we'll never get this study.

I tried Maca last year. I noticed no difference, but I was not super rigorous about it. I also thought it tasted really bad. I have some in my cupboard and will be going through that again soon. I figure that out worst it's a great multi-mineral, as the soil where it's grown is very different.

By the way, there is no foolproof method out there to get rid of finasteride sides. Nothing seems to work consistently, and no study has researched it rigorously.

You can try drinking tea, or maca, or going vegan, or complementing finasteride with other steroids, and you'll just be experimenting.

Sorry.

David - So do you think that Maca would cause shedding while I was on propecia? Even if it doesn't have the desired effect i/m looking for that okay. I just wat to give it a shot assuming it wont hurt my hair.

I don't know, and I suspect that nobody knows.
