Well, I've been on minoxidil for about 1 year 3 months and finasteride for a year.
My hair is looking...very promising. went through a couple of bad sheds but, well, my hair is long (1+ inch) now and it is doing something I couldn't do over a year ago:
It is all one length and it isn't : sides thick, top flat. The whole of my hair looks very full. I'm pleased.
My crown is filling in as well.
Anyway, I've decided to cut back my finasteride to a very low dosage. I'm cutting my fincar into 8th's now. I'd guess after all the finasteride dust that falls away and whatnot that I'm getting between .3 and .45 mg per dose now where I was getting a solid 1.2 mg before.
I'm not worried as you kind people on these boards have shown that .2 is all you need.
I have noticed that even though my sex life was fine at 1.25mg per day (despite the first month slump), my libido has come ROARING back at this low dosage.
I mean, I was okay with my GF before but now I'm getting spontaneous erections and whatnot (I'm 31).
So, for me, even though I didn't really suffer at all from the side effect, I have still noticed an improvement in libido by lowering finasteride.
This may also seem like a wierd thing to say but I feel wittier as well. I don't think I was suffering from the "brain fog"...as I functioned just fine before but I feel scrappier....
I'm beginning to think that if the low dosage is just as effective for hairloss as 1mg per day then more people should be using lower dosages of finasteride.
Anyway, give me some more time to assess my own situation as I have only recently lowered my dosage. Maybe about a month of lower dosage so it could all be in my head.

EDIT: oh yeah, and minoxidil KICKS ***. Yeah, it's sloppy if you use the cheap stuff but I attest the bulk of my improvement to minoxidil. If you aren't using it, you don't know what you are missing.
Luckily for me, I don't have to worry about the usual minoxidil stigma. I have an extremely beautiful girlfriend (no BS) who absolutely adores me and nows about my hair and doesn't care.
