Lower Price for Propecia now that Generic Version Available?

I was on Propecia for 6 months and then my Pharmacist started giving me Dr Reddy's brand (now FDA approved). I rather liked the peace of mind that came with being on the brand name drug, but not at $80 a pop.

The price difference between Propecia and Dr Reddy's is about $10 a month. From what I gather, Dr Reddy's will eventually go down in price after their 6 month exclusivity in the US. Will Merck try to compete?

Should I be concerned with product quality at this level or just keep buying the product from the lowest bidder? I want to stick with 1mg dose.

With all the lawsuits spinning up, and the drug going off patent, it would not surprise me if Merck dropped Propecia entirely. Look at the Accutane/Roche situation in the US.

as long as we can get genuine finasteride legitimately from somewhere, I don't care who makes it.

if these greedy lawsuit zealots at Propeciahelp and their dodgy lawyers manage to get Finasteride banned altogether, a lot of regular guys out there are going to suffer immensley

from what I've heard of Accutane, it's a potentially very dangerous and toxic drug - not in the same league as Propecia.

Accutane is very strictly regulated and controlled, with all kinds of checks when it's prescribed. If Finasteride is so dangerous (as some claim it is) then why is it so easily obtainable? You don't even need a prescription to get it. The regulators would have stepped in and banned it ages ago if it was like Accutane

If generic companies start making propecia then the price is going to go down a lot which is good for everyone, and then who cares what Merck does. Losing the patent might motivate them to find something better.
