is that a lot or fairly normal hairloss rate?

is there any point start taking propecia(proscar) if my hairloss rate doesn't increase? i mean, 1/10 of an inch per year isn't a lot and the rest of my hair is perfect. no sign of hairloss whatsoever.

btw, i'm 28 years old. and about a nw2.

Have a look at your family history on both sides and see what way they progressed. Thats a very slow hairloss rate IMO, but that dosnt mean you shouldnt do anything about it if you want to.

It is slow hair loss but you dont if it is going to accelarate. Thats why the previous poster is correct, ask your father or other close relatives how fast did they go bald if they are bald. In many stories on this board i have read of people saying they were very slowing progressing and all of a sudden they lost too much ground.

it doesn't really resemble any of them. my dad is 55 now and is about a nw3 i guess. greyish hair and thinner than mine, but still decent hair. he started losing his hair i guess when he was thirty and gradually became a nw3 over 20-25 years. my uncle on my father's side is the same thing, but he's about 45 now. my uncle on my mother's side is probably a nw2 now(50 years old). however, neither of them are thinning on top or at the crown. just receding hairline. my grandfather on my mothers side died when he was 50 and he was about a nw2 as well. my grandfather on my father's side, went almost bald in his mid twenties. so, it's hard to say.

however, i think i'll wait and see. i have taken pics and evaluate my hairloss about 1-2 a year. if the rate of hairloss doesn't pick up, i don't think i'll go on proscar. at least not until i reach my thirties.

btw, is it normal to lose quite a lot in a short time and then almost nothing for the next few years? i've had a v-shaped hairline since 16-17(after puberty), but i didn't really notice it until a few years ago(about three years). since then, i haven't really noticed any difference when i pull back my hair. the only difference i can see, is if i inspect individual hairs on my hairline, but that is impossible to draw any conclusions from.

i compared some pics from 6 months ago and now and it seemed identical.
