Hi I'm a 21 boy frm Singapore.

Recently I've noticed lots of my hair dropping. I'll drop close to 30strands of hair everytime I shampoo my hair, and around another 30 for the rest of the day. I dont usually notice so much hair dropping in the past. My friends have also commented that my hair line is receding. It's still in the initial stages I hope. I'm not sure whether it's just my hair line only or it's my whole head that's thinning (I couldnt see any balding spot yet).

There are spots on my scalp which occasionally experience some pain whenever I touched them. I've experience some itch yesterday too.

My dad's side of the family dont have any problem with their hair, but my mum's brothers does...

I'm currently using Head & Shoulders Anti-dandruff shampoo and occasionally Herbal Essence's.

If mine is a genetic thing, am I able to stop the balding and regrow my hair? how's the rate of success?

Hi

Welcome to the Hell called male pattern baldness(Male Pattern Baldness).

I suggest you start with 1 mg Propecia or buy proscar tablets and cut them into 1/5ths and have one each daily.

Stay away from Rogaine for the time being.

I would also suggest adding 1% Nizoral Shampoo.

Dump off Head and Shoulders and herbal essences.

Try Finasteride and nizoral for atleast 1 year and then determine if you are responding.

Take photos at regular intervals to compare.

Good luck.

If you are not sure that you have male pattern baldness, then there might be a possibility that your hairline is tranforming into a "mature" hairline which is not like the hair line u have when you are 13.

If you wanna stay off from Propecia then you can just start by shampooing with Nizoral for the time being.

Call your Dr Surgery and ask to see a person that specialises in Hair Loss. They will be able to confirm if you have male pattern baldness, Only when you know this answer can you think about using Propecia/Proscar. Even then, consult a Dr before starting any treatment.

In order of importance

1...Propecia / Proscar ....... stops your hair from falling out

2...Rogaine (minoxidil)....... helps to regrow your hair

3...Nizoral Shampoo (with Ketoconazole) ......also helps to stop your hair from falling out (not as good as Propecia /Proscar)

Good Luck

The disadvantages of Propecia are:

1) lifetime commitment;

2) high cost.

3)Its side effects; including less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen.

4) prescription drug
The disadvantages of Rogaine are:

1) lifetime commitment;

2) high cost.

3)Its side effects; including itching and prickling, headaches (in 40 per cent), dizzy spells and, in some, heartbeat irregularities.

4) its ability to grow hair is at best modest.

i got these 2 from some web sites. are them for real?

Wherever you got those lists, that site must be trying to sell you something else, probably Procerin, which doesn't work. Side effects from minoxidil are very, very unlikely, and also unlikely from finasteride (Propecia). Used together, along with Nizoral shampoo, that is by far the most effective treatment available.

They are lifetime commitments in the same way that brushing your teeth is a lifetime commitment. Or eating. Or breathing.

By the way, they are only said to last for ~5-8 years, so you'll have to start planning your funeral if you're going to make them into lifetime commitments.

Zhane.....I have just Private message u...check yr inbox...me aso from Singapore....now the first step is to consult a Specialist in National Skin Center....After that he will access u if u ar suffering from

1) Inherited balding aka Male pattern Baldness(male pattern baldness)
2) Hair loss from nutrional defienciencies
3)Hair loss from diseases

If u are diagnosed as suffering from either 2) or 3) then in a way u are lucky in cause mostly this tyepe of hairlosses are reversible and temporary once the underlying medical conditions has been addressed

1)male pattern baldness - This is hell cause there is no cure for it yet cause its inherited.only treatments and u have to continue those treatments for a lifetime unless u let yrself become totally bald and go for hair transplant surgery (which is literally the cure)
The treatments are subjective to different individuals who may respond differently...

IMO i think 1) is the most likely cause of your hair loss since u say yr mother's side have this problem too...i assume it runs in yr genes
