Losing my hair at 23 - tell me how to cut my hair and more

I am new so please be patient with me, thanks.

I just turned 23 and I decided to get my hair cut short. I can't believe how much hair I have lost in the past year or so. I am at a total loss as what to do. Here I am with a 3 guard buzz:

As you can see, the top is pretty bad. I was thinking about taking it even shorter but I wasn't sure how it would look. If I went down to a 1 or 2 would it look bad because of the amount of thinning? I just don't want it to accent my hair loss. Other than the top, I think short hair looks fine on me.
Here is a front/side pic.

What is my best option here?

Also, I guess I should go on some type of treatment but I am a poor college student and I can't really afford much. I hear that the "big three" seems to be the best option. How much will that cost me?

Thanks for the help.

Try it on a no2 guard, it looked bad from the top view but the head on pic looks ok. I think you are one of the lucky ones who can pull off the buzzed look.
As for meds get on a DHT inhibiter as soon as possible to help keep what hair you have left, your best option (cheapest) would be to get Proscar (5mg finesteride) and cut the tablets into fiths. Good luck.

get on the big three

because as you say you are a poor college student order a generic finasteride

try fincar from united pharmacies-will cost about $25 for 80 days worth
order rogaine foam-should cost about $60 for 4 months
and lastly nizoral 2% shampoo-should cost in the region of 15/16$ for a bottle that will last about 4 or 5 months(use 2-3 times a week)

send me a pm if you need any more info

stick with all treatments for at least a year, ive been on them for 21 months and only see my best results now

There is nothing about his hair that "looks ok". Sry, but this is terrible for a 23 year old one. Get on the treatments libertine suggested. Anybody in the first world should be able to pay for hair loss treatments. You might also look into a concealer to fake some density.

About your haircut:
Shave it off, use the treatments and maybe you will have a pleasant surprise when you grow it out in one year.

Good Luck!!!

I agree. I dont want to sound mea' but you're not really fooling anyone with having 'longer' hair, its pretty obvious you're going bald. So just take it really short and see how it looks on you, nobody likes a balding head so just take it all down :)

how short should I go?

also, can I do all these treatments if I have really short hair? I don't mind having a super short cut but I would just like my hair to be fuller.

I guess it wouldn't be too expensive. I asked my Dr. and he gave me a prescription for something ( I cant remember the name) and it was like 80 bucks a month so I was going off that amount.
Where is the cheapest place to get all the stuff I need?

Your screwed!! My advise is to start, at the very least Propecia, it will help you keep what you have and maybe some regrowth. Unfortunatley, like me, it is a life long commitment. I started when I was 25 and have been on it since ( 34 not ). It sucks that you have to rely on a drug...

That is a lot of loss for someone at twenty three. You might be able to grow some back, but if not, for what it's worth, I think you make a good looking bald man. It just suits your facial shape or something. I know it's a bullshit deal and I'm not trying to lie to you. I'm just saying you come off as a good looking guy overall.

I just turned 23 too...
I am also short (5'6") so most people see more of the top of my head than I would like. I don't think bald works well on us short guys, I guess I always thought that tall guys looked better bald.

He gave you a prescription for Propecia! This is good, but much too expensive! Get Fincar from an Online pharmacy. Divide these pills into 4 or 5 pieces and take one piece every day. Costs you about 80 bucks as well.......a year! But make sure to get minoxidil as well! You need regrowth!

Start working out and get a good body as well. Might compensate a lot when it comes to women. At least your face is ok, not as ugly as mine. Stay positive, there is hope!

i honestly think it's reached a point where you should shave it all.. it won't be much different than it is now. if you decide to keep that,..try using dermmatch.i use it for my hairline. does a good job.make sure you get the right color though

When I said looks ok I was reffering to his overall appearance with hairloss not his hair alone.

I highly doubt that.
