Losing hair at the temples

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have noticed in the past couple of months my hairline at the temples is receding. I also notice diffuse thinning in the rest of my hair, on the top however there is no sign of a balding spot or not as far as I can see with two mirrors. The hairloss just might be partly due to some increased stress, a bit from work and also because I'm very upset with losing hair. Hairloss in certainly in the family, my dad went bald from young age, so did his brothers, and my 1,5 years younger brother is in an advanced balding stage. I am 27 years old and my hairskin has always been a bit flaky, for which I use nizoral since like in my teen years.

I'm wondering whether there are any people here who have noticed results with minoxidil at the front of the head as it is said that the only proven results are for a bald spot on top which I don't have. I'm thinking of starting to use minoxidil as you don't need any prescription for this. What I am wondering about is whether using finasteride - or propecia - would be a waste of money to use complementary to using minoxidil as that especially seems to work mainly for a bald spot on top.

I believe that both finasteride and min can help hairlines as well as any other part of the head. It all depends on how far you have gone before you start treatment.

Okay, I have bought Minoxidil 2% solutionand am starting to use it as of today twice a day. How do you guys actually apply it, put it on your fingers and rub it in or put it on those cotton ear sticks to apply it? I'm also going to see a doctor to prescribe Propecia. Further, are there actually people here who have done the full thing with minoxidil and seen any success as in regrowth? From the few I've read, I've seen not many that are sure of any result.

As a long time minoxidil user i can tell you that first of all, don't use 2% solution. Use 5%, much stronger, and faster results. Second of all, use it twice a day every day. Once a day is all I use and have maintained mostly, but for maximum regrowth possible, which still may not be super thick regrowth, use it twice a day. Rub it in with the fingers and if it's only on your temples probably a half mL will be enough for each application. If it's recent temple regression you may be able to regrow a lot of it.

It is very recent as well as the thinning, just the past three or four months or so, so I hope to be able to do something about it. I do think over here (Belgium) I may need a prescription for the 5% solution, I'm going to ask that as well when I go see a doctor for the propecia I'm hoping to get.

You sound like exactly my situation. Except, my temples haven't receeded, just some frontal receding that is heading towards the temples, no thinning on top etc.

Get on propecia. It can stop the progression, minoxidil doesn't do anything to protect your follicules from the evil DHT :)
