Losing 3 Stone in 3 months.

Hello
I'll cut right to the chase, I'm fat.
I'm currently about 3 stone over my ideal BMI and i wanna lose it by christmas. Basically, I feel like sh*t and none of my current clothes fit me and the few larger size clothes that I have bought look like a tent on me. It's hit my self-confidence pretty hard.

Anybody care to give any diet/exercise tips?

Whenever you diet, you need to eat more nutritiously than a normal person would, because you are eating less. Also, you need more protein, and need to get your essential fatty acids (nuts, some oils, not much though). So instead of doing 60% carbs, 20% fat, 20% protein, you probably should do 50% carbs, 25% fat, 25% protein.

Eat 5 small meals per day, instead of 3 big meals.

Next, you need to exercise every muscle in your body at least once a week, and preferably twice a week. You don't have to do it hard. but just a little bit of a challenge will make the muscle more sensitive to testosterone so you don't lose as much while dieting. Also get 8 hours of sleep and drink enough water.

Being hungry is not fun. Riding an exercise bike before breakfast can accomplish as much in 1 hour as you'd lose all day from eating 75% as much as normal. So definitely do the bike. But that should only make you lose 1 pound per week. To lose another, you need to cut your daily calories by 500 per day. Not fun. I take a steroid and do 2 hours per day when I feel like it, but I don't advise you do that.

Finally, since fat loss is your goal, reducing the amount of muscle burned will mean something else is burned. That is the fat. Taking HMB (a nasty tasting powder you can find on google) before your cardio and before you sleep can reduce how much muscle is lost and thereby make more fat get burned.

BTW, your goal of 45 pounds in 4 months is doable. It is 3 pounds per week. That would be very challenging though. But if you can even get half of that done, that would still be something to be proud off.


One last thing: you can't let holidays and other events be excuses to over eat. It is OK to have a little chocolate now and then, but another thing to eat a lot.

i lost two in two when i was seventeen. i went to the gym 3 x week, went swimming after, ate less chocolate etc. it was so easy you just have to draw up a regime you can manage and stick to it.

yep, persistence and consistency ... the usual..

I didn't even exercise, just had a solid diet for a couple of months.

Most people don't realize that you can lose A LOT of weight by just changing your diet. Cut the carbs (especially the high fructose corn syrup...good lord, that stuff will give you diabetes), take in good fats, drop the saturated and trans fats, up the protein, and lower your salt intake.

In the end, all it really takes is careful label reading at the grocery store and you can almost eat whatever you want. Your local grocery store's health foods section is usually the answer.

reducing your salt intake will reduce your water levels. Still good though to keep your sodium levels at the right amount.

Adequate salt intake is enough, but most people don't realize how much sodium is in the food you eat. For instance, a single can of regular (not healthy request) tomato soup, cream of chicken, or chicken noodle soup can easily contain about a third to half of your daily sodium needs. Many people cook entire meals with such crappy foods.

Taking in salt above what is recommended causes fluid retention, increased blood pressure, and an increased afterload. This creates a higher workload on the heart leading to concentric hypertrophy of the cardiac muscle. This can lead to cardiac ischemia due to poor perfusion of the hypertrophied muscle and eventually myocardial death. That process can lead to other diseases such as dilated cardiomyopathy.

You don't have to take in large amounts of fats and cholesterol to off your heart in a hurry.

The first step for any physician when trying to lower someone's blood pressure is telling them to cut the salt. If that doesn't work, diuretics are used and so forth. Doctors won't (shouldn't) even prescribe thiazide diuretics to people with high salt intakes. It renders the drugs useless.

Agreed, and you get used to label reading and being aware of fats/calories/salt etc very quickly. Doesn't take much effort.

I had a diet of mostly grilled vegetables and lean meats like chicken.

my daily salt intake would be close to zero. fortunately the mackerel has salt in it. I just eat fresh fruits and vegies and oats.

1 stone = 14lbs. Yes, it's stupid. And so are "pounds"/"lbs".
