Looking for some advice on thinning/balding. I'm screwed!

Hey everyone, I just recently turned 25 and like many others I am noticing my hair getting thinner and thinner. When I was in college, I noticed my hair line falling back around the temples, this happened when I was around 20. Another 2-3 years later and I noticed the crown of my head was beyond thin.

Genetically, my grandfather on my mother's side was bald (but some of my older first cousins still have a full head of hair). My grandfather on my father's side is nearly 90 and he still has almost all of his hair. My father, who is about 55, still has almost as much hair as I do. We have the same widow's peak but he has a fairly large bald spot on the top of his head (almost identical to the location of my thinning). My dad told me he started taking Rogaine in his late 20s/early 30s when he noticed his hair was thinning. He thinks the Rogaine is why he has a bald spot, as it was the only place he applied it to

In the past 4 years or so that I have wanted to at least slow my hair loss I have been taking Biotin, Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil, and daily vitamins. I am not sure if these have slowed it or not, as I do still have most of my hair (Sidebar: This did wonders for my complexion). When I was in college I searched for any generic "Thickening" shampoo I could find, but lately I have been more careful about shampoos. I have switched to Renenpure Dr and NT, I am not sure if this is curving the balding or not, but it does make my hair appear thicker.

Here are a few photos if anyone wants to analyze my balding and let me know if they have any theory on what I should do next. I really want to avoid propecia and rogaine but I am thinking they may be my only options. Thing is, if I only were to lose hair in this spot, and have a similar head of hair to my father, I think I would prefer that over taking tons of medication. Anyway here are the pics, thanks guys. hairloss1.jpghairloss2.jpg
Both of these pictures were taken in a pretty well lit room, in the second one I am more directly under a light.

None of those things you are taking do a single thing to help male pattern baldness.

First line should be finasteride. This should stop your hairloss long term. It is impossible to have long term success without preventing DHT from getting to your follicles (such as an inhibitor like finasteride)

If you are satisfied with only maintaining that is all you need. If you would like maximum regrowth as well, you should take rogaine/minoxidil in combo with finasteride and apply it to the areas which you wish to have regrowth once or twice daily

Thanks for the advice. I kind of assumed the vitamins and what not were not going to solve the problem, but I also thought maybe my health was poor and that poor health may accelerate the problem. I'm thinking I'll start taking something stronger, but the side effects of finasteride do worry me a little bit.

I apologize if this already got a reply, forum is being weird on me.

But thank you! I appreciate the help. I assumed the vitamins/oils/etc. were not going to stop the problem, but if my health improved perhaps I could slow it. Really nervous about the side effects of finasteride. Including my father, I know a couple of guys that had the opposite effect intended wit Rogaine, but I would be willing to try it.

Too bad we don't have a magical cure for this yet. anyone know how well stem cells are working for male pattern baldness? That seems promising.
