About to start to dutasteride after getting some from inhouse pharmacy (couldn't find anywhere else) and was wondering weather to bother keep taking finasteride with dutasteride or drop it completely. Also what would be recommend dosage to start off at. The capsules are 0.5mg...so how many should I be taking a week to start off as I would rather start slowly and wait and see the progress and reaction. Thanks for any help.

I'm on the same boat. I started Dutasteride 0.5mg a day, from InHouse on March 25th 2013, and still have not dropped finasteride out of fear of losing hairs the finasteride was maintaining or thickened. At least on the good side is that the addition of dutasteride+rogaine has really helped my hair a LOT. This is by far the best results i've gotten relative to the time I have on it. It's no coincidence that this is the first time I take dutasteride and the first I see results like these. I've taken finasteride+rogaine in the past and didn't get results like i'm getting now so fast.

Another good news for me is that I have experienced no sexual side effects with the addition of dutasteride.

hi there,
i started taking dutasteride twice weekly what - three months ago maybe? have been keeping taking finasteride 5 days a week as well - not sure i can give an answer as to how to best approach that am afraid. i saw a study of a guy who moved from finasteride for four years to continuing finasteride 6x a week and then taking dutasteride once a week and he had really great results - so there's something to be said for that. i've also seen great results on dutasteride every day - i personally didn't feel quite ready to take that leap so went with a middle option and went for twice a week.

Thanks for all the comments and advice guys!!!!!! I will start out with 3 times a week and go from there depending on what happens over the first 3 months. I didn't really get any results with finasteride.....if anything it made my hair weaker. So I don't think there is much point of continuing and just get on with dutasteride. On this website though which dutasteride do you think I should go with as prices are a big factor. http://www.inhousepharmacy-europe.com/c-48-Hair-loss.aspx The dr reddys one has been recommended to me and is legit....but the prices vary quite a bit so what do people suggest? Thanks again!!!! Adam

I don't mean to alter your plans, but I will tell you what I have read. There was a talk of someone using dutasteride 2.5mg (one does is .5mg) a day for the first month and then drop it to normal .5mg a day and he got amazing results by doing that. The idea is to mop up dht quickly so your follicles can start "breathing". dutasteride is supposedly safe even in 2.5mg does as it is already in trials for hair in such large doses. You did not mention when you started finasteride but it is a good idea to give one drug enough time to see how that works for you and leave the rest treatments for later when some fails. So you have something to fall back on. dutasteride is much more potent and also reduces the second type alpha reductase enzyme (which finasteride does not), and that enzyme is also active for some brain steroids. So, you may be depriving your brain of necessary steroids. Not to scare you but be ready for possibly headache, fog, and fatigue. You will have to just try it for yourself what gets you the best benefit and least side effects. ----------------- As to different names; just get the least expensive. They all have the same active ingredient, just different name on package with almost identical inactive ingredient formula. So, don't go by names. Inhouse and alldaychem (including $25 shipping) seem to have lowest prices. But, let us know if you find any lower pharm from other users.

I did finasteride for about 11 months and got no results or any regrowth, basically my hair got weaker as time went on, I was prepared to stick with finasteride if it could maintain but sadly I knew that if I waited for another year I think my hair was just going to get to a worse state. My worry with taking 2.5mg is that the sides can be much worse, I think its wise and much more safer to start at 0.5mg and take 4 a week and see how you react - sides etc..... I know Avodart is the most expensive, but it is very strange that the prices vary a lot......30 capsules adovart is £130 and dr reddys dutas is $40 for 30 strips as well....makes you wonder if the price difference is purely down to branding.....I will see how I respond and will start off slowly. Obviously I will be combining this with some supplements, minoxidil and nizroal and see how we go.....

Just thought I would update, after 2 weeks on dutasteride everything seems to be ok bar the headaches which are annoying. I am just going to see if these persist...but the headaches are annoying. I am assuming that dutasteride is like finasteride in that the way people will react at different stages...some at 3 months....some straight away and some at 12 months. I think my DHT is pretty strong so I have gone with a dosage of 1 capsule every other day. So 3 a week for now....and its a wait and see what happens after a couple of months. Im also a bit sceptical on minoxidil impact on my hair as well. I haven't seen much impact from minoxidil for me or at least the 5% standard version in liquid form. I might try 15% if I don't see anything over a few months.

has that been proven or are you just speculating?
