Look, does masturbation/sex worsen hairloss or NOT?

I'm a bit pissed off as to how NOBODY can provide a CLEAR answer to this age old question. I could be jerking off everyday but NO, people claim they have success having not beaten off for a year or something. Surely wouldn't EVERY man be bald/balding if they had regular releases? Lol.

From what I gather, the increase in testosterone because of sex/masturbation is negligible when it comes to hair loss, just as it is when you're weightlifting.

Let's look at it this way, both activities help decrease stress, stress which is bad for your overall health, your hair included. There's no need to make your life more miserable by not tapping into your natural endorphins. Then again, it's a good idea to limit at least masturbation to about once a day as it tends to make you more complacent and passive if done too frequently. For sex, just go wild and have fun IMO.

From what I know it does, because when you ejaculate your body's testosterone spikes up, and more testosterone means more DHT.
but as they said above, I wouldn't limit any sex because of it, and personally I'd stop masturbating at all, regardless to the hairloss.

It does not make any difference. Jerk off all day if you want. Also for future threads on this I dont care when or how you like to jerk off, what p**rn u like or anything like that. Keep it to yourself.
Jerking off might raise T and then DHT a tiny negligible amount and again for only a short time assuming you dont jerk off 24 hours a day 7 days a week. So really it doesnt matter. Its like eating 1 crumb and saying its going to make you fat.
To be honest though no one knows for sure. They cant study everything its just from what we know so far

We should make donations to fund a study. I'll volunteer to be one of the masterbaters.

In all seriousness though. I 100% get an inflamed feeling in my scalp, in my hairloss area (front/hairline) within minutes of when I ejaculate. These constant threads have me seriously paranoid about it

I think maybe the best way to get to the bottom of this:

Can we have some people who experience decent regrowth step forward, and give a description of their ejaculation habits during that time.

How can we make the study double blind? Won't the subjects know if they're masturbating or not?

They'll have to be put in a hypnotic state

Yes it very likely does. Sex fantasies too. Probably related to sex hormones and dopamine/magnesium depletion/circulation/vitamin D, perhaps cortisol if hypersexuality is used as coping mechanism for other stressors. Just look how defensive people always get when asked about it, they always ridicule the others but never write about their own masturbation/sex fantasy habbits.

Search threads on this forum about it or go on reddit @ nofap and search for ""hair loss", "scalp", etc. Many people there accidentally discovered they stopped losing hair when abstaining. You'll also notice that you have a weird scalp sensation after fapping and especially after binge fapping - oily scalp, itching, massive shedding.

Not only is this pure BS, but how much more miserable are you going to make your life? As if balding wasn't enough, you are going to voluntarily frustrate yourself.

Stop spreading this nonsense.

I miss the rep system.

If you need masturbation and sex fantasy to make your life less or not miserable, or you frustrate yourself when not fapping there is a problem right there. This is about the coping mechanisms I was referring to earlier.

Masturbation and fantasy is not normal nor healthy, it points to difficulties in achieving a fulfilling relationship with the opposite sex and a disconnect from the real world (coping) and/or to hypersexuality, which is also tied to psychological or biological issues.

I came into a girl yesterday and yes, I feel happier because of it. I guess I should have told her "Sorry honey, can't do it, a guy on a forum says it makes you go bald."

You're coping hard here, you can't get sex so you hope that you'll prevent all of us from getting it?

Anyway, you have absolutely 0 evidence to support your claim. Enjoy your sexless (and bald eventually, since you probably don't take meds) life.

The subject is masturbation and sex fantasy, you being with a girl is irrelevant, so why would you feel the need to bring it up. The issue is how much more masturbation and fantasy you have on the side, not actual contact with girls.

I don't really follow, how is not masturbating preventing anyone from having sex, it's two different things, if anything, not masturbating or fantasizing will help and motivate you to find a sex partner. That is chosing to do something about it instead of coping.

I have a girlfriend, no need to try to take potshots at me, again, the subject here is masturbation and sexual fantasy. Nothing to do with actual sex. Although hypersexuality would probably have an impact too.

How does your dick know the difference.

Explain.

First of all, cut the attitude, I don't owe you anything.

As for masturbation, check yourbrainonporn, it's mainpage and reasearch tabs (top right). p**rn (and fantasy) in particular is very damaging because you can binge on it, you have control over your arousal and can go at it for hours if you want to, you get a sensory and hormonal overload because you're exposed to multiple females. You can very rarely go 4+ times/hour with the same girl on multiple occasions (again, yourbrainonpron explains it) but you can easily go 4+ times/hour with p**rn). Or you can drag a "sex session" for hours with p**rn/fantasy. And it's probably related to female pheromones too that don't magically appear when you're all alone jacking it. And probably many other factors we're not aware of.

On top of it, as you probably know, the vast majority of our physiological and psychological processes are sub or unconscious so asking such a question (or rather assuming your body can't tell) is relatively naive in the first place.

Gary Wilson, the head psychologist at yourbrainonporn, is really pushing the argument that PIED is entirely related to pornography and dopamine, and has absolutely nothing to do with hormones, with testosterone or prolactin, et cetera. His position seems to be that hormones don't care much about excessive masturbation, t's all just p**rn, psychology, and dopamine.

I'm skeptical, but I have not put in enough effort to argue back.

I didn't know about his stance on hormones, but I find it rather odd he'd think hormones are not affected by this. Maybe he's trying to bank it all on psychology because he's a psychologist?
