Longevity of Treatment

Hey All

I have read a number of quite heated posts on this forum about the longevity of treatments and whether treatments should be used separately at first, or all at once. It would be nice to sort it out once and for all.

Myself, I am in what I would call one of the "initial" stages of hairloss. No recession whatsoever, but a noticeable thin patch on the crown, but a full coverage of hair nonetheless (ie - no scar tissue or completely bald areas).

As I've said before I went (stupidly) straight to Ashley & Martin and was put on 1.25mg finasteride and 7% minoxidil solution twice daily from scratch - 2 out of the big 3, even though my hairloss wasn't even that bad. Now I only use the minoxidil once per day.

Since I didn't get great results after 1.5 years (maybe only maintenance), I recently started on Crew Cu peptide shampoos and spray every other day and Nizoral 2% twice per week. It's strange, but I think either the Nizoral or Cu peptides have set something off, because it looks to me like my thin patch is thickening up.

Now to the point - someone here previously recommended to me that I should ditch the minoxidil for the moment, and merely use finasteride and nizoral. I know I could of course up my existing regime later by using minoxidil twice a day and cu peptide twice each day.

However, is there much cred in this longevity theory? Logically I can see how it might make some sense to use things only as necessary, but really will it increase the longevity of one's treatment?

Cheers

If you start a treatment, finasteride or Minoxidil you have to keep using it until a permanent or better solution is developed by science or until you die. If you stop using a treatement, whatever hair you have gained or maintained due to the treatment will be lost and it will be as if you had never used it in first place.

Your hair is not dependent upon finasteride as it is Minoxidil. THey do different things

minoxidil widens the blood vessels to the hair vollical increasing it in size. When treatment is stopped, you will expierence an inital shed (ty where is that graph when i need it :()

Finasteride basically blocks DHT from attaching itself to the hair follical and thus leads to less miniturization over a period of time.

The combination of the two is the most effective treatment there is.

If you're in your initial stages of hair loss and you're young, going with one thing at a time probably makes sense, for the reasons that HairLossTalk.com has outlined at various times. However, if someone is losing hair very fast, is further advanced in hair loss, or is older, then it probably makes sense to go for the "all out assault" approach.
