Hi everyone

Ive been a member of this forum for over 5 years now and in that time I've seen many members come and then go.

Im curious as to know the reasons for this, maybe tratments worked and they no longer feel the need to visit forums as much. Alternatively maybe the treatments didnt work and they just gave up . Or maybe they just dont bother to post anymore.

So any long time members, I feel it would be useful to new members if you would share your experiences and let us know how treatments have worked/havent worked out for you, if overall you are happy with treatments and what you wish you had done differently.

I have been on treatments for nearly 8 years now.. I first tried minoxidil with little effect, so quit after a year. Started finasteride maybe 7 years ago. Didn't really see any results or notice the shedding stop but stuck with it anyway.

After 2 years I was thinking of quitting due to a lack of results so started looking back at old photos and I was surprised to see my hair was ever so slightly better.

I then added minoxidil and the results just got better. Not dramatically but better non the less.

After 8 years my hair is still stable and im pretty happy with the results.

My only regret is wishing I had started finasteride a little earlier and not stressed so much about whether the treatments were working. Just be consistent and give it time.

Also make sure you take pictures its so easy for your mind to play tricks on you.

Hello Spanishlad,

I have to admit that it also occurred to me to notice "dead senior members" ... and buried if I may add, as I have numerous times stumbled on links leading to hairlosstalk.com when asking a hairloss related question on google ... links leading to old threads (2009-2011) with inactive senior member

the more plausible explanation is simply that : they asked all the questions they had to ask on these forums and they got fed up of the routine (no new treatment , same topics everywhere with the same questions...etc) so they got the hell out of dodge somehow.

or perhaps , they went totally bald since then , so they figured that it was pointless to tarry on hairloss forums , but here you are right , they could as well share their knowledge.

and a third unlikely category (trolls) who's interests are to taunt and jubilate on others' misfortune or/and create a disarray or simply socialize ... but if a troll manages to make it up to senor member well that would mean that our dear moderators are taking it easy or that these trolls are slipping through the nets.

I've been around since this forum's old design. most of the members here don't even remember that time.
I think that's like 12 years ago or something.

I don't visit and don't post much even when I do visit.

I come here for one of 3 reasons:
1) check if there is any new treatment
something that can fight hairloss better than Finasteride (excluding dutasteride because of the side effects)

2) I want to try a new treatment
example: minoxidil. I recently tried it without any results, and really wanted to know what I did wrong.

3) I hear about a new treatment and want to know what the guys here think about it.
example: I saw LLLT in the news and came here to search about it to know if it's a snake oil.

even though my hair is still thinning, I can't find a solution for this on this forum so I don't have a reason to visit unless of the 3 reasons above.

hope that answers your question.

I was actually thinking about this exact topic a few days ago. I do hope that is that they have had success and moved on. I hope one day that I will stop posting here...

I also hope this is the case, but it would be nice if more people would say so before they disappeared.

The reality is the majority of people will stop or at least slow their hair loss with the treatments we have and this should be considered a success. However because they dont achieve regrowth worthy of posting in the success forum sadly they just dont bother to say anything and this leads to a distorted representation of results on the forum.
