Ok, first off I gotta say that this is the best Hairloss board on the net, trust me cause Ive spent endless hours on all of them. There are many members here that have valuable info to share with fellow hairloss sufferers and I know with out u guys I would not be where I am today.

Ok so I was diagnosed with male pattern baldness in december of 2003 and this made me extremly depressed because I was only 19. After being diagnosed I went on all the different hairloss forums on the net just to get some info on the best treatments. Yet, the internet made me feel even worse because of the many people that posted saying that propecia and rogaine made all there hair fall out faster and along with it went there penis and manhood.
Then I found this board and many of the experienced posters gave me hope. So i jumped on propecia and nizoral in April of 2004. 6 months passed and nothing changed. I was still shedding horrendously, over 200 hairs a day everyday just during my morning shower. This is how much i was shedding even b4 I was on any treatment. At this point I lost hope and faith in the propecia, but I was gonna still give it a full year.

But I also decided to change a few things at the 6 month mark. I added rogaine and ignored all those people that said rogaine is horrible and will f*** ur hair up. I decided to shave my head to a #1 all over and start applying the rogaine all over 2x a day. I shaved my head cause I wanted to make sure that I was getting the minoxidil on the scalp and I knew that by the time my hair grew back I would have a routine and would be less likley to quit or get lazy with the application. I also added 4grams of MSM daily and got rid of Nixion. I also added t/sal which makes my scalp feel amazing.

So 2months have now passed and I got my first haircut last week. First off, I have been going to the same hairdresser for the last 3 years and she knew I was losing my hair. After getting my haircut she told me it was a good thing to shave my head cause my hair looks 100x more healthy/fresh and is whole lot thicker. She didnt know I was on minoxidil so I told her.

The awsome thing is that I am not shedding in the shower like I was before! And I know this for sure. I dont mean to rag on anybody, but people who post ever week saying they are shedding or there shed has stopped are not helping anybody, i.e Deaner (sorry buddy). I wanted to make sure that I was not imanging things and I can surely tell u now that minoxidil has done amazing things for my hair and my shedding is down TREMENDOUSLY. And my hair has thickened up Significantly. I also have hundered of vellous hairs around my hairline and temples. Sure, if could be propecia kicking in, but personally I just feel like its the minoxidil. One thing I wanna let people know is that I use more than 1ml of minoxidil per application, i use about 3-4ml and try to cover most of my scalp. I know this might just be a waste, but I just do it for my peice of mind. I use Dr.Lees minoxidil so this large amount of minoxidil does not give me any irratation like the generic ones did. I also have no side effects relating to breathing problems or chest pains so I am gonna keep using this amount of minoxidil. The only cons are that I run out pretty quickly, but I have the money so its alright and I also seem to be growing hair on my forehead and area between the eybrow and hair on the side of the head, but I can deal with it.

I just wanted to tell people this cause I know many people might be scared to use minoxidil, cause many of the horrible posts about it. Dont expect to get major regrowth on propecia alone cause most likely u aint gonna get it. If u want really want regrowth and not to just maintain u must add minoxidil and be consistant.

So i would just like to thank the members on this board for all there help. Thankyou u dont know how amazing it feels to take a shower and now have ur hand covered in hundreds of hair. I just hope this lasts and look for a another update soon. I love Minoxidil!

Man!!!! Amazing! You sound a fuckin hell like me!!!
I was going to wait some weeks to tell this, but as your history is like mine, here is what I have to say.

I started finasteride almost 7 months ago (May 28th). In November 1st, I shaved my head, and some days later, I got very depressed because of how my scalp looked (I saw how f*****g bald I was getting). In November 4th, I bought Minoxidil 5% (twice/day) and Nizoral (3x/week), and have been using them since then. In November 22nd, I took lots of pictures of my scalp. In December 2nd, I shaved my head again. Today I took some pictures. I won't describe here how f*****g HAPPY I became when I looked at them and compared with ones from last month, and when I started looking at the mirror. Just take a look at them! Look the difference. I'm almost sure it is Minoxidil too, and not finasteride kicking in.

And you said something I noticed too. If I shed, I just dont see it. I haven't shed any sh*t for looong time (since I shaved my head). Even when my hair is "longer". Shave head rule! It's easier to apply stuff, and you dont care about shedding.
Another thing you said I do too is apply a lot of minoxidil. I just like to leave my scalp drowning in minoxidil.

I hope it gets even better.

So, I'm with almost 7 weeks Minoxidil 5%, 6 months and 21 days finasteride. That's what happened.

I would say December is better than November, but it's just one month, so not much change.

Guys, you must be kidding. Put one photo next to the other and compare. The difference is clear. I know it's not a super awesome change, but for 6months finasteride/7weeks minoxidil, it's pretty good, I think. Don't give much attention to the areas more on the back. Look just in the frontal!! Look how my temples got better. This is just the beggining, as I said I was going to wait more weeks so even better results could come but this is just to have an idea how it's improving.

Yep, the very vocal minority. We have them here too, but we try to help everyone keep perspective on these things. All of us are fully aware of how the minds-eye can make you believe you've lost "75% of your hair" and that shedding really is mass murder of hair follicles, rather than a temporary dormancy.

We've all been there! I was ready to initiate a class action lawsuit against Merck when I was at month 4 and no signs of stopping of shedding. It was either, make HairlossTalk.com or Sue Merck, and I wasn't buying any domain names anytime soon. But Bryan told me to remember the studies, and hang in there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Would you consider copying and pasting this into a new thread in the "Success Stories" section? Even if you're still just starting out, this will be encouraging for people to read.

I think everyone needs to realize one thing--

Even though, say, Shosho's results aren't exactly mind blowing in the context of regrowth, he definitely hasn't gotten any balder.

It's clear that he has made some progress, which is a big deal, but the biggest form of progress for any of us should be maintenance.

I hate how people are so optimistic...like they really think they are gonna get all their hair back or something.....if you see results ..it doesnt matter how big there are.....its a huge f*****g deal...instead of wanting more ...appreciate what you have first.
