Liquid to Foam to Liquid

I was on Propecia for 9 years. Due to increasing sides, I quit 3.5 years ago. After quitting Propecia, I didn't use any hair loss treatments for 1 full year. I surprisingly maintained my hair for that year. After about a year, I started to shed...that's when I started up on Rogaine 5% liquid. Did that for about 2 years. Maintained my hair, which was great. After about 2 years, I started to very slowly loose ground. Around the same time I started itching like crazy after each Rogaine application. Figured it was PPG, so I switched to foam. Itching stopped right away, so I am fairly sure it was the PPG.

Since then, I have been on the foam for 4 months now. I've been shedding like crazy over the last month. Loads more than I ever have before. The switch to the foam did something. Since I am 4 months into foam, with no stop in the shedding, I was thinking about going back to the liquid (and using less of it to avoid the PPG irritation). Should I stick with the foam for another 2 months? Can a shed phase on the foam last more than 4 months? Or should I go back to the liquid? Any advice? Thanks.

Also I noticed less facial bloating with the foam in comparison with the liquid. Anyone else experience this? Cant make any sense of it, since they both are 5% minoxidil.

Hi,
Rogaine 5% minoxidil has worked for some people. But it has PPG and some people are allegic to it. There are other similar products on the market which does not contain PPG and you can definately have a try. I just came across Amazon and found an interested product: "TriBooster for Men: Minoxidil Enhanced with Azelaic Acid and Saw palmetto DHT Blockers, Coenzyme Q10, Biotin, Vitamin, Amino Acids". This product is without PPG and low alcohol content. Compared to regular minoxidil, it contains more good ingredients. seem to be attactive for me. I will have a try for it.

I'll ask again, in a simpler way: I've been using 5% liquid for 2 years. Maintained well, with some regrowth. Switched to foam 4.5 months ago. Experienced the most horrific shed. Lost most of the frontal hairline. No evidence of the shed stopping 4.5 months in. Should I switch back to 5% liquid or stay the course on foam. Any advice? Thanks.

This experience seems to be common on hair loss forums.

A quick google search will quickly reveal quotes like "switched to foam and it is eating my hair line away"

I read somewhere that if you started on liquid, you should stay on liquid. And if you started on foam you should stay on foam.

I had the same experience as you and quickly changed back a few years ago.

Thanks Bowser. I think I'm gonna switch back. How long did you try foam? Did you recover your losses when you switched back?
