Update: After two not so great applications (slight creases) I tried the alice band method...it has worked amazingly well! No creases at all. Finally got this all sorted! And yes it does work on injected thin skin system you just have to stretch to the sides.

I use a similar method to Noah for attachment modified slightly. I tape all round the system - back, sides and front - but leave the backing tape on at first.

As I have a central parting, this makes it easy to line the system up at the sides as I just position the system with the parting as central and as straight as possible. I then line the back up and set the height of the front hairline (roughly 4 finger widths above the centre of my eyebrows), and I mark this with an eyebrow pencil.

I usually then peel off the backing of the tape at the back and attach this area, which acts as a pivot point. Then I roll one side up, peel off the backing tape and gently roll it back down to attach it. I do the same with the other side. Then finally I put a tiny bit of glue where the front of my parting is, then once I have 2 layers of that dried I peel off the backing tape for the hairline and gently roll.pat it down. (If you prefer to glue the whole of the frontal area, I recommend tracing the outline of the hairline with an eyebrow pencil so you know where to put the glue on your scalp before attaching the front. If you do this, you should also wipe off the eyebrow pencil marks from your scalp before you push the system down).

This method works great for me. After reading this thread, I think I'm going to buy an alice band too as that will make it even easier as it will allow me to keep the system in place 'hands free' while I peel the backing tape off the back. Thanks for the tip!

Alice band holds everything still. I flip up the part I want to attach and it stays up on its own weight.

Presumably you first get the system in the correct position, then put the alice band on to hold it place, then only keep the alice band on while you flip up the back and attach that part. You would then need to take the alice band off in order to attach the sides, otherwise it would be in the way? I may be stating the blindingly obvious here, but I just wanted to make sure I understood how you do it so I can refine my method slightly. I'm always looking to make things quicker and easier where possible.

I do the front first and after that take it off yes. Maybe I should do the back first?

I personally find it easier to attach the back first, but everyone will have their own preference as to how they do it. Even if you decide to attach the back first, you can still line up the back and the hairline into the right position before you peel off the backing tape and attach the back. Of course, if you are gluing the frontal area then you are best leaving that bit to last.

I have a poly thin skin but my method is:

Position everything so front, sides, back matches and no gaps. My system is poly so it has that silicone sticky surface so it holds on it's own weight. I then flip up the front, and place the alice band just behind just in case! mark the hairline edge, and then apply the glue and let dry etc, and then secure the front.

Because I have already lined up the back I remove the alice band flip up the entire back so it is actually almost hanging over the front, apply glue let dry etc. Gently stretch and roll back. Perfect placement! I imagine you could modify this with a lace system! But you would have to use the alice band so it doesn't shift at all and then remove it once you ready to do the back.

Yh I wear poly with injected thin skin...so far so good! Super easy to clean and looks great but downside is on a really hot day it can get a little hot. How are you finding lace? I am definitely going to try that at some point.

That seems a neat and effective method there. I use an all lace system - I've just ordered an alice band online so I can refine my attachment method slightly. I'm so thankful this forum exists because all the little tips/tricks of the trade you learn on here really do add up and end up making life with a hair system even easier and better. Who would've thought that something as simple as an alice band could make such a big difference?

Yes its easy to clean, this is just my 2nd week trying lace due to this covid wokring remotely never got a chance to go outside, but it feels better than skin in summer as it is breathable...

also i feel lace has more density(volume) of hair than injected thin skin

Nice, sounds good! I really want to try french lace in the middle and poly around the edges...breathable and easy for adhesive.

I glue the whole area, no tape. I have done the back first only once, but I didn't notice anything better. Maybe I still should. Why do you think doing the back first is better?

If you glue the whole area, I don't think it matters so much which way you do it as long as it works for you. However if you are gluing only the front and taping the rest, it's obviously easier to leave the front part until last.

I usually tape back and glue front so I will try this hair band method...but for skin systems how does this process work since we have to stretch the system??
