Leaving the pill out of its package?

I have a small query..

Some 2 days ago, i had my usual package of propecia in my bag, and on that day my bag happened to have a lot of books and stuff in it. Where i kept my propecia meant that it was gonna get kinda squashed..so that day when i came back home, i noticed that some 3 of the pills packaging had torn slightly open. I didn't know what to do, so i took them out entirely and kept them in this small pill box i have. Since i'm on 0.5mg, when i went to cut one of them today, i noticed it was somewhat 'soft', as in the pill cutter went through it so easily and there was quite a lot of small breakage..

I took the half pill anyway (which i slightly pressed my teeth against, and it broke up rather easily, as opposed to other times when it doesn't) and threw out the other, but i'm wondering whether keeping them out of their small packaging causes the finasteride pill to lose some of its quality in some way? They've been kept in a dry place since so i don't know..

It sounds like they've been squeezed or exposed to moist. I cut proscar pills, and store the bits for up to 3 days. I've never experienced any trouble. However, tablets should be stored in their blister packs untill you're going to use them, to ensure top quality.

In my experience most prescriptions are dispensed as loose pills in a bottle. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
