Hi there I've considered purchasing a laser comb since it's not a drug and does not require too much maintenance (3x per week @ 15 min is reasonable). I'm male, somewhere between norwood 2 and 3. I noticed thinning hair in the front nearly 10 years ago, took propecia for a few months and then discontinued. Now after the years I've noticed some thinning in the back and the front has progressed more, but at a rather slow pace. I assume in 5 years it will be totally obvious I'm losing hair, while right now it's only noticeable under scrutiny or when dirty.

I've read hairmax reviews on amazon and a few other neutral sites and it looks like it's a coin toss whether it works or not. I've browsed this forum and couldn't find anything. I'm also considering getting generic propecia as the price isn't as bad as I thought it would be. However I don't love the idea of using chemicals. What if I want to impregnate my wife? Could that harm a baby?

Hi,

I've used the laser comb for a year and didn't see any regrowth or hair thickening. I was hoping for positive results but had to face it a couple of months ago that i was wasting my time.

In my opinion, i wouldn't waste my money (and time) on the laser comb. Have you considered rogaine foam? You'll most likely get hair thickening like i did within the first 3-4 months....and possible regrowth too!

Thanks for the advice. I've looked up reviews on rogaine foam and they are overwhelmingly positive. I have a question, though. If I took only rogaine foam, what should I expect: to keep the hair I have, get new hair, or lose hair and grow hair at the same time? the article I read on this site (http://www.hairlosstalk.com/hair-loss-treatments/rogaine-foam/) is a little bit confusing. It says propecia keeps your hair, and rogaine regrows it. But it seems pointless if it's meant to get new hair AND continue to lose it..?

Either way I'm not entirely sure I want to do it. When I took propecia I didn't notice any shedding and I think it kinda slowed down the process. When I stopped taking it I didn't notice any new hairloss until some 5 years later, which brings us to today. Right now if I started to shed it might be a little awkward. Also, if you don't shed does that mean it's not even working?

I know these are difficult questions to answer and everyone is different. Any insights are appreciated.

Rogaine is a growth stimulant, so its purpose it to regrow and thicken your hair. If you are genetically programmed to lose more hair while you are using it the Rogaine will not prevent it from happening.

Propecia's purpose it to allow you to keep the hair you currently have, and some users have said it has helped thicken, as well as grow new hair.

Many combine the two to increase the chances for success.

Rogaine only for those who lost to much, you don't want to be minoxidil addict for no reason

Ok I've got just one more question then, is there any difference between generic propecia and the real thing? When I bought it last time I had to get a prescription from my Doctor and then buy it from a pharmacy. It seems it is more popular to buy it online, no?

There isn't any difference. I use finasteride, which a generic version of Propecia, but a hell of a lot cheaper. Make sure the online pharmacy is legit, because there are a ton of them out there, and I don't think they are all equal. I'm sure someone on this forum could recommend you a good one.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I understand a lot of you guys buy from canadian companies, I'd prefer to do that myself as I live there. Maybe you could PM the store you use? Otherwise I suppose I'd have to start a new thread. Thanks again.

I'm also in Canada, and for now am buying my finasteride from Shoppers Drug Mart. Do a search on here, I'm sure you'll find a few threads of people recommending online pharmacies. I was reading a thread a few days ago about some good ones, but unfortunately I forgot where it was.

Shopper's sounds good, there's one just off my street. Do you buy it in the aisles or do you need a perscription for it? How has it been working for you, and how long have you used it so far?

I'm in Canada too. You need a prescription to buy finasteride but you can get liquid minoxidil (2%) over the counter.
If you're interrested in getting rogaine foam, pm me and i'll let you know a couple of websites that ships to Canada.

I think I'd prefer to start with propecia/finasteride and re-evaluate after a year. I might add rogaine foam as well but I don't want to start with them both. If anyone could share a retailer that doesn't require a script that would be nice.

You're going to need a prescription from your doctor. It only takes 5 minutes.
