hey guys ive been on kirkland minoxidil 5% for over 5 weeks now having upgraded from regaince minoxidil 2%. to be honest im pretty pissed off with the results so far. all that has happened is that its made my hair weaker, and when i rub in the minoxidil with my fingertips loads of hair falls out, loads more than when i was on the 2%. it really annoys me because this stuff is ment to help not make things worse.

please offer some adivce, has this prolonged period of shedding (5-6 weeks) occured for anyone else?

im soon going to add propecia to my regime because im desperate for some light at the end of the tunnel, im willing to risk the side effects. i'll give that a few months then add a topical anti DHT or something.

do you guys think i should continue using kirkland 5% if it is having this effect on my hair? its been over 5 weeks now !

Apply the minoxidil and let it sit. Only rub if it's going to roll off.

I would add Spironolactone right now.

These posts are ridiculous.

You can't possibly tell whether the 5% minoxidil is going anything good or bad (save for perhaps irritation) for your scalp and hair within 6 weeks.

Give it AT LEAST 6 months before you make any decisions. When I use minoxidil I use the dropper to drip it drop by drop onto my scalp and gently rub it into the scalp, sometimes hairs fall out, sometimes they don't.

If you're shedding, that is most likely a good sign that the dormant hairs are beginning to shed and kick-started back into the growth phase.

I have been on minoxidil for over 3 years and have shed consistently throughout that time.

My hair does not seem to have lost any density though - people lose hair - even when they don't have male pattern baldness.

Don't drop anything, don't add anything in (finasteride would be a good idea though), just keep at it.

I diagree with this statement as I've been on Xandrox 5% and spironolactone 2% for just over a month and I have noticed definant regrowth in my temple area. I have 2-3mm in areas dark hair already. I'm ecstatic.

What do you disagree with? That you need 6 months to properly assess whether a treatment is working or not?

Do you have photographic evidence of this "definite" growth you've experienced? If so I'd love to see it.

It's possible you're an exceptional responder to the treatments you've started, but given that it typically takes months for dormant, veulls hairs to cycle through to visible terminal hairs, this is highly unlikely.

The usual course is that after 3 months some visible results may be possible, 6 months (at the minimum) is a better time to truly assess.

Like I said above, it's *possible* you're a freak responder. Certainly, 5 weeks is not enough time in which to decide a treatment is NOT working.

You will have to forgive me for the positioning of the picture as it was fairly hard to get this shot. This is my left temple, the better responding of the two so far, although my right is responding as well. The red lines are where my terminal hair used to end.

Note: I couldn't get my hair to keep from falling over, the long hair is existing hair, but you can clearly see the new vellus/terminal looking hair.

I get all my topicals from Dr. Lee.

No sides from the spironolactone, to quote Dr. Lee:
"Because it metabolizes totally and rapidly in the skin where it is applied, there are no systemic effects."

Thank you. I use the #600. I'm actually from the US, good luck though. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions if you email them.
