I heard the hairline you come into at 40 is the hairline you keep, or generally, thereafter. Does anyone have experience with this? What happens if you were on finasteride upto 40 then went off it, would the hairline recede further after 40?

No your hairline can still get worse after 40, as was the case for my dad. but I would agree that male pattern baldness progresses slower the older a guy becomes in most cases. I think most men lose the most amount of hair in the beginning.

I wish this was true but unfortunately male pattern balding continues to progress throughout your whole life. The aggressiveness depends on your genes and if you use treatments. Very few men experience absolutely no hair loss pass the age of 40.

Once it starts I think most of the time it will never stop by itself. The speed might change but the faster it goes to begin with the worse it probably getting. Family history is good indicator although not perfect or completely reliable.
