There have been some threads about Accutane and hair loss, but does anyone know what ingredient in Accutane causes hair loss?

No one knows for certain, but you should understand how Accutane works.

Accutane, essentially, functions as a slight case of vitamin A poisoning on the body. It elevates Vitamin A levels so high that the body reacts in a certain fashion - namely, it STOPS producing oil. It also has other, randomized effects depending on the person, including potential hair thinning.

I was balding before I took the ol' Isotrenotin, and my loss did not change whatsoever over a 4 month 60mg/daily course. So there's no guarantee.
