Hi there,

Been on dutasteride for almost a year and have been using rogain liquid for the same length of time. For the last few months i've been using rogain foam which i rekon has shown some resonable results. Have been using spironolactone cream for about 2 weeks now and am noticing masive amounts of shedding. I've been using it all over my head and the frontal areas have sheddded the most, to the extent that my frontal area looks really whisp and bare. Agghh!!

I understand shedding is a good thing as the hairs that grow back will hopefully be stronger and thicker.

How long can a shed last for? My girlfriend is abroad and i will be seeing her in a few weeks and would hopefully like to see her with as much hair as possible.

Will this shedding be due to the addition of spironolactone to my routine or is it just by chance?

I was under the understanding that spironolactone doesn't make you shed hair. Slightly confused

Any thoughts or opinions much appreciated!!

Cheers

Hi,

Appologies if last post seemed a bit daft. ( was in a rush before work and got rained on which made my hair look very weak and balding. Suppose it was just a panic/worry post)

Would using spironolactone for 2 weeks have anything to do with my heavy shedding?

I'm curious as i'm going to see my girlfriend in just over two weeks time and i'm not sure if i should continue to use the spironolactone cream or discontinue its use?

The results from the rogain foam aren't amazing but i led myself to believe that my hair was ever so slowly getting better. The last couple of days my hair has most definitely shed heaps and my hair looks thinner.

I have done reasonable amounts of research into topical spironolactone cream and understand the logic behind it. By being an anti-androgen and blocking dht from combining with hair cells i was thinking that i can only help my situation. However from sprawling through here i haven't found many users that have had much success or many users that recomend topica spironolactone cream.

From my brief experience it seems to have done me no favours. Not sure if this is simply coincidence or has something to do with the addition of spironolactone cream to my regeime??

Anyone got any suggestions??

Thoughts/comments would be much appreciated!!

Cheers

I would think that your shed would be as a result of the rminoxidil. I dont think spironolactone cause cause a massive shed like that in 2 weeks. Just get some dermatch or toppik and your girlfriend wont notice a thing. goodluck

I normally just shampoo my hair with loreal xy-regenium thickening shampoo but am considering using nizoral. I have been using Dr Lee's regrowth shampoo with 2% ketocanazole and 3% salicylic acid? for about 2 weeks now(alternating days) (same time as the topical spironolactone) Could the addition of this explain the shedding?

Also which shampoo is better out of the two? I noticed that they both have 2% ketoconazole in them?

From reading on here it seems apparent that nizoral can leave hair feeling dry. From using Dr Lee's regrowth shampoo i have noticed that my hair does feel dry. Should i use loreal xy regenium shampoo or conditioner after?

Opinions and thoughts much welcomed!

Cheers

Nizoral contians ketakonazol which is in Dr Lee's so i would continue using Dr Lee's. I personally think that it can initially cause a shed. Using this 2-3 times a week is enough, make sure to leave it in your hair a few minutes to get absorbed. You can use any other shampoo you like on the days that you are not using nizoral.

I read on Dr. Lee's site that his shampoo is some cased caused people to shed a lot of hair. If you haven't read the info about the shampoo throughly I would do that.

Have briefly researched Dr Lee's shampoo but couldn't find much on the topic.

Do you have a link please?

Here is the warning.
Warnings: Adverse effects reported in patients receiving topical 2% ketoconazole as a shampoo to the scalp include skin irritation, abnormal hair texture, scalp pustules, dry skin, pruritis (itching), and oiliness or dryness of the hair or scalp. There have been reports that use of 2% ketoconazole shampoo resulted in removal of the curl from permanently waved hair.
