Specifically, how soon after going completely off the finasteride are you supposed to see increased shedding again? My last dose was about 2 weeks ago and I'm not taking any other drugs/topicals.

Could be 2 weeks, could be 6 months. It all depends on the person.

Can I ask why you stopped and aren't on any other treatments anymore?

Stopped finasteride because I got sick of the persistently shrunken genitals, erectile dysfunction and diminished ejaculations it gave me, even after being on it faithfully for six months. I slowly got some significant regrowth in that time but it's just not worth it to me, especially for a treatment that would only delay the inevitable for a couple more years.

Also used both Nizoral and minoxidil long-term a while back and those were just crap. Currently all I use is the Maliniak method which I've been using for 2 weeks now, and if that doesn't work then f*** it. :hump:

Ouch, that sucks :-/

Thankfully, I'm in the majority that doesn't get sides...otherwise I'd be screwed.

I hope you find something out there that works. There's some stuff like RU and CB that people swear by.

:agree:

I got good regrowth at .5mg for 3 years. I recently went back to 1mg and have been holding steady so far (fingers crossed).

I've read that you have an even lesser chance at side effects with a reduced dosage, and if nothing else you can delay the baldness for YEARS (not just a couple). For example, here's my older brother at 23

He started losing his hair at 19, I started losing my hair at 21.

Here's a side-by-side picture of my younger brother, he's 23, I'm 27

You can see that his crown is much thinner than mine, as well as his hairline.

Here's how I look after being on finasteride for 3 years

EVERY SINGLE MALE on my dad and mom's side have been no better than a NW3 by the time they were 27. It's true that finasteride will only delay the inevitable...but it's not like it's just going to put it off for a few months or even a couple years.

Manut,

lol sorry but what makes you think I haven't been there already... I'll repeat, I've tried all I can with finasteride and I'm DONE with it. This six-month run wasn't even my first time being on it. There was another trial I had with finasteride sometime back where I got even *worse* side effects (sexual and otherwise) with only 0.25mg per day. The last time I had to gradually increase the dosage VEEERY slowly for a couple of months just to minimize side effects before the "stable" six-month period I mention. Long story short, no thanks I'm not spending anymore money just to poison myself even further. If it works for you then great but don't project your own experience onto mine or assume I just haven't tried doing enough.

Rawtashk,

Thanks for the pics. The other thing besides the fact that you're not getting any sides, is that you started quite a bit younger than I did so you'll have a lot more to gain from it just because of that, and most likely your results will last much longer too. In my case my hair's pretty far gone already so I don't have as much to lose. Bottom line being, with the sides I experienced at various dosages and spanning a good deal of time, and the way everything else is, the final cost-benefit analysis in my mind just tells me this is the best thing to do. I know that for people who didn't get sides it's hard to imagine getting side effects horrible enough to cancel out the positive benefits but believe me it's very possible.

Still, I can't believe nobody else has any sort of answer to my original question. Is it really possible that you may not lose what hair you gained for up to six whole months after quitting?? :dunno:

Ahh, I see. Well, if you've tried everything you can...then it sounds like you're in the minority that get the bad side effects. Sorry about that :-/

If you were balding before Propecia due to DHT attacking your follicles, then you are doomed to resuming that same balding when you stop inhibiting the DHT with Propecia. Now, the question is how long it will take to get back to that state. It could be quickly, it could take a few months...but I'm fairly certain that the balding state will resume in a short period of time.

Lowering finasteride won't usually really lower symptoms, the widespread systemic effect on the body doesn't change that much.
