Just need some confirmation!

Hey guys,

I've been paranoid about my hair for quite a long time. It was always very fine as a kid, but it's definitely thinned about a bit/lot more in the last 4/5 years. I don't remember when it happened exactly, but I did lose a lot of weight at one point so I think it may have been around then. I've attached some pics, just hoping for some confirmation that the 'Big 3' would be my best bet here. They're taken directly under a light for the harshest view possible. It's normally a fair bit shorter than this, which usually makes it easier to disperse on the top.

Just a side note, I've never been able to grow proper sideburns (you can see my hairline practically stops dead at the top of my ears, and my facial hair changes to thick and jet black and mainly around my mouth and chin), which has always seemed a bit odd to me. I've never really noticed other guys with the same thing.

Thanks!

Yeah you do seem to be showing some temple recession, so it could be the beginnings of male pattern baldness, you seem like your becoming a NW2. Other than that, your hair looks really good.

I'm 27. I'm not that worried about my hairline tbh, as it's always been very high since I was a child and I don't think it has receded much, if at all. I'm more concerned at how thin and brittle the hair on the top of my head is. It seems much thicker on the back and sides than it does down the middle (front to crown).

Since how long has the hair seemed thinner than the hair on the sides. If it is more recent, say the past 2 years, you have a greater chance of it thickening up with the right treatments.

However, you need to check if that thinning alone is due to male pattern baldness as if it is due to something you might not need to do anything at all.

I don't really know when it started exactly, that's half the problem. If I had to guess it would be around 4 years ago, but it's been as thin as it is now for at least the last couple of years - I don't think it's gotten progressively worse. I'm going to see a Doctor about it next week, so hopefully he can give me some advice and/or refer me to a dermatologist. I did have pretty bad seb derm on my scalp around the time it became thin, which I probably didn't treat quickly enough. I also had a lot of itchiness and flaking from it, but that's been sorted for least the last year or two. Could it be related to that?

It's hard to say for sure. Hopefully the derm will be able to tell you if you have male pattern baldness or not.

Usually guys who have male pattern baldness do complain about itchiness and oiliness along with the hairloss.
