Hi Aqua, has you shedding slowed down or stopped? If so, you should continue finasteride!!

hi Sanchez, yes shedding has definitely slowed down but I've lost such an extreme amount of hair on finasteride and completely tanked my hairline its hard to look at this in a positive light. What would cause my hair to thin out on finasteride as it was much thicker before i started.

Did you have the dreaded itch in your male pattern baldness areas prior to starting finasteride? And do you have it now?

Could be a telling sign as to whether finasteride is working for you, and your hair is just shedding in relation to growth cycles, or if finasteride is afflicting you with the dreaded condition @buckthorn is famous for

Yes mainly around my crown area it continued for around 4 months into finasteride. Not so much now but I've been using nizoral shampoo for the last 3 months which i think is helping.

Hello mister

It can take up to 1 year before you see results on finasteride.

Some have an amazing recovery and some people have 0 results.

Those are the facts!

do you think minoxidil would be a smart move or would it trigger more off a shed? I don't know if i could go through much more shedding.

Hi! How is your situation now? I'm 7.5 months in and my hair has never been in a worse. Lost so much hair and developed seb. dermatitis which I never had. The itch did get better, although some days I still have sore feelings and itchiness on my head.
It's funny how 2 months ago my struggle was to style my hair to look how it used to look 4 months ago and now i struggle just to get it not to show any scalp and still resemble how it used to be ..

Should I give up on finasteride? What's happening doesn't feel natural. I never lost this amount of hair before the treatment even though I had itchiness all day. Is it just a coincidence that my male pattern baldness accelerated and got seb. dermatitis after starting the treatment? :( As for sides, have some minor ones. The major one (to date) is a big reduction in semen. Not to be to graphic but the last time I had sex without a condom the girl didn't believe me when I said I came lol

Something developed to decrease hairloss isn't suddenly going to flip and cause hairloss. The chances of the being true are worse than winning the lottery, it doesn't make sense

More likely your male pattern baldness just got worse or seems worse because you stare at your head all the time to see if finasteride is working. Hair also grows in cycles and changes with haircuts so it's useless to gauge effectiveness on any reasonable timescales. I gave up taking progress pictures and wasn't totally sure my hairloss stopped for almost three years on finasteride.

While all that is true i think it's too coincidental that a person who never had SD in his life all of the sudden got a severe one that just doesn't goes away. Also, I never shed like this in my life... I'm getting worse by the week and it's not an exaggeration unfortunately. The thickness of my hair was never an issue, now it's the main one.

I'm not saying that the drug itself is worsening my hair, I'm saying that maybe my body isn't adjusting to it. It's a known fact that hormonal imbalance can cause hair loss and SD can cause hair loss. If my hair just kept falling the way it did I would assume I'm a non responder but this isn't natural. A decade ago no doctor believed that finasteride caused persistent sexual sides but now it's generally accepted that it can happen. But hey, only one way to know right?

You cannot get discouraged, hormonal therapies such as Finasteride cause telogen effluviums which is a temporary form of hair loss resulting from hormonal changes. It can take several months from the time you start these drugs to the time you see regrowth, and because of the effluviums they can cause your hair to look much worse before it looks better. If your shedding has slowed down then you are blessed, and should start seeing results within the next couple months. Generally I tell people if they continue to shed rapidly by the 9th month they are not responding or something else is causing the hair loss. It's never a good idea to start more than one treatment in the first year, reason being is you will not know which of the treatments are working and which might be causing a problem if one arises.

Awesome advice! I should've done it but my derm told me to get on both finasteride and minoxidil (don't really know why the hurry i was a thick Norwood 1.5). Now I have to guess what is making my condition worse. Tried reducing minoxidil to once a day for a month and it doesn't seem to be helping the SD.. Maybe in a couple of weeks (reach month 8) if it continues to get worse at this rate i will stop finasteride for 1-2 weeks to see if the SD and shedding slows down..
