Got my 3 month supply of Rogaine Foam in the mail...YAY.

Open up the pamphlet and read.

They show photos of a guy with a "bald spot" and and suggest I not use Rogaine if I am worse than the examples.

I'm a slow diffuse thinner over YEARS. Still have damn near my original hairline but thin all over.

WTF? Now I'm full of doubt about it all.

Many diffuse thinners have had good results on Minoxidil. Have a look through the Success Stories forum.

Most people believe they can't claim it works all over because the trials only focused on the crown, so:

1. they can't claim efficacy on the rest of the scalp.
2. they can't judge the level of absorption which may occur on the rest of the scalp, which could lead to greater incidence of side-effects (even though they are rare & minor).

I still dont know if I will start minoxidil. I am on finasteride and wont ever stop that, but with minoxidil, I keep hearing all these horror stories of sheds making peoples hair worse, even after seeing it thru over a year. Plus I keep hearing even if you do have success, it only lasts for a couple of years regardless if you keep using it or not, then you'll start to lose your new hair growth. Sounds like a damn nightmare to me.

However, I do know many people have had great success from minoxidil as well.

Only growth stimulant which is proven to work. :dunno:

Personally I felt like I had nothing to lose and found a lot of the success stories inspiring. Guess it depends on what stage you're at if you feel the same. :)

What are your results so far using minoxidil? Yes you're right about waiting til you have nothing to lose before starting it. For me, my hair is not that bad right now, and i am on finasteride so I am hoping finasteride maintains my hair without having to use anything else. But if my hair takes a turn for the worse and I have nothing to lose, hell yeah I'll jump on minoxidil then. I mean why not. I'm just not at that stage yet, I still have lots to lose so that's why I am frightened of starting it.

You just put it on and use it. They only used "bald spots" for clinical trials. Many people here have reported success all over their head and even the hairline with it. That does not mean it is guaranteed to work (anywhere), but it can work anywhere.

Objective evidence now shows that topical minoxidil (Rogaine) is effective in frontal areas of the scalp, and not just in the vertex area in male-pattern hair loss (MPHL).

"This drug works in all areas of the balding scalp," said Elise Olsen, M.D., professor of medicine, division of dermatology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.

I've been on Rogaine foam for 3 months and I'm pretty sure that I am seeing regrowth on my hairline (badly recceeded) and possibly my thinning crown....i'm considering posting a topic soon as I have some baseline pics but I'm going to wait awhile yet to confirm.

I'm taking nothing else. I use it once (sometimes twice) a day, at night, and it's effortless like brushing your teeth.

It seems much more effective in the crown than the front though. The back of my head just below the crown started some thinning, so I started applying minoxidil to my whole crown and it's been ~ 3 months and already it's back to where it used to be, which means I'll probably end up growing too much hair back there! Can't complain about that. However my temples haven't seen much improvement. I'd say maybe 10%.

If that is accurate then its been successful and perhaps you'll see more regrowth on the front. Do you use anything else?

Doubt I'll see any in the front, I've been using it for much longer there. Also the back never had that much hair loss, just minimal diffuse.

I use nizoral 2x a week. Won't risk permanent sexual dysfunction so this is my only regimen. Basically just putting it off for another year or so and then I'll have no choice but to shave it all off. RU is too much of a risk due to the unknown.
