Just around the corner?

Hello...newbie here. I have been on Propecia and Rogaine for 4-5years and I am in another depressing shed cycle. Hair literally falling out just by touching my head. Hair looks like crap. I was wondering if anyone has heard about 'cloning' techniques. I called a very reputable PhD on a radio show about 6 months ago and he said he is certain there will be a restoration method within 5 years that will eliminate the current surgery method and will use hair that is actually cloned from yourself. Although I think it would be ridiculously expensive at first, that type of procedure (without a scar) and using one's actual DHT resistant hair would be a dream come true. That is why I continue to use drugs...just trying to hold on until something like this comes along. Just wondering if anyone else has read or heard of this on the horizon as well.

Yes, you are refering to Hair Multiplication, I guess. Don´t be too optimistic! Some people say it will be out in 2010, I personally believe it won´t be out till 2015 earliest.

If the finasteride and minoxidil combo doesn´t work for you anymore you are really fucked. Sorry to say it like it is, I am also afraid of this moment. Your last hope may be Avodart, which is stronger than Propecia but with a stronger risk of sides. Good Luck mate!

I would switch to Avodart if i didn't hear the same shed stories that finasteride offers. I just don't see the benefit of risking the use of a stronger drug if i'm just going to deal with the same unpredictable shedding.

Dude, even if you shed from Avodart you will benefit in the long run. Why did you even start finasteride when you are worried the shed stories?

I started finasteride before I knew about 'sheds'. Can I say I have more hair than if I never used finasteride? I don't know, but my point is Avodart is certainly a stronger drug and if I am going to shed anyway, I just don't know if the potential risks are worth it.

10 years ago they were saying that something better is just around the corner...but I don't understand why it's not here yet when you look at how much money there is to be made...

Perhaps there's not as much money to be made as you think.

I think there is....hair loss is one of man's greatest fears...and fear is very motivating...a lot of guys would do literally anything to have that full head of hair back....

Perhaps, but not everyone feels compelled to treat it at all costs, financially or otherwise. Sure, there's money in it...but there's money in a lot of other things, too. I venture to say that by rank it's not at the top of the list. The drug companies already enjoy annuity-style return on the current treatments, as they should.

I do believe that treatments will improve over time - that's a consequence of our ever-increasing knowledge of science. However, I don't believe there's anything groundbreaking "around the corner." In my view there are bigger fish to fry.

There must be some money in it. Bosley and MHR sure don't have a problem paying for all those infomercials and commercials (and that's surgery!). "Cloning" or growing your own hair from your own sample does not seem that outrageous if they can clone an entire sheep. If they can eventually do it, not only will there be no incision, but there will be no limit to how much hair can be replaced. It would be a financial home run.

There is lots of money to be made but science is not making a movie. I mean its not an exact or easy science. It takes a long time before science can find another path thats significantly different the roads already traveled. I mean do we really need 10 more DHT inhibitors? Science has to piece together enough pieces to figure out what else causes hairloss. I promise you its much much harder then we like to think.

The hairloss doctors want to always give hope to people. I mean lets be realistic hair multiplication is going to cost a lot of money. Thats a fact. Its also going to take many years before its proven safe no one can prove something is safe until time tells us it is. Hair multiplication is going to suck at first and improve gradually over years as its refined as in all science. In other words 2017 at the very earliest before you actually get major results like everyones looking for and only if you got 20K laying around.

I just saw the tail-end of The Big Idea w/ Donny Deutsch where he had a guy on from Bosley. At the very end of the show, the exec said he thought "it would be available around 2009." (seemed to be referencing something new). I don't know what he was talking about. Anyone catch it?
