I've realized that I actually have the same hair loss pattern as my father, not my maternal grandfather

I was out for a walk in the sun with my dad the other day and I noticed that he has diffuse thinning across his entire scalp like me, you can't really tell that he has hair loss in regular lighting because he frauds his temples with a middle part, the sun was super harsh that day. He's 60 years old now so he has above average hair for his age so I don't think that he cares about it that much.

It's crazy to think that I'm 34 years younger than him and I'm not far off reaching his current state of hair loss. He either got lucky with male pattern baldness presenting later in life or I got really unlucky with my male pattern baldness starting 30 years before it should have.

When did the hair loss start on your mom's side - uncles and grandfather etc? I think its 2/3 chance that side on average and 1/3 your dad's side though you can sometimes match one side exactly.

My maternal grandfather had a big bald spot at the crown and was around a nw3 in his wedding photos, he was in his early 30s back then I think. I have 2 maternal cousins in their 30s with diffuse hair loss but they aren't losing it on the back and sides like me.

What do you mean back and sides? That the thinning is already as far out on the sides and as low in the back as an NW7 pattern? Your maternal side sounds about like both of my parents family except my family didnt get serious crown balding spots until 40s usually. Your dad is doing pretty good at 60 if he doesnt show much hair loss in regular lighting.

My hair is diffuse thinning on the back and sides of my head, it's only mild in the donor area but you can see my scalp on the sides. My temporal points are thinning too, they have continued to thin on dutasteride and oral min but my crown has improved in density.
