I was on strictly rogaine for 2 years before and I didn't lose any hair. What the fukk is going on? I think my frontal portion is thinning. Will it regrow back stronger next 2 or 3 months?

It could be that the minoxidil is simply losing its potency. minoxidil doesn't stop the root cause of male pattern baldness and will simply 'mask' the damage while your follicles are still slowing being eaten away. The finasteride should save the hairs which aren't yet affected by male pattern baldness. Put simply, you will probably lose the hairs minoxidil has stopped from falling out over the last 2 years.. finasteride might save the rest but its no guarantee.

Every person react differently as every male pattern baldness's evolution is different.You might be right or not.Luck plays a huge part.But I think that it is more likely to keep them as you said.

If you started finasteride first and then minoxidil you would have an increased chance of keeping the regrown hairs ( if any ) for longer than if you only used minoxidil. It doesn't work the other way around.

Why does anyone start with minoxidil rather than finasteride other than through ignorance?

Finasteride surely has to be the base of any hair routine.

@MorningGlory I started with minoxidil because I'm young. No point taking finasteride now since it can alter my hormones for the worse. Going for it when I'm older though

I think you misunderstood me. In my case, I'll be using minoxidil for another 6-12 months before I decide to use finasteride. With that being said, if I happen to keep the current follicles I've grown by the help of minoxidil, won't propecia make me keep those hairs longterm aswell or do they not apply? (When I do decide to take it).

so minoxidil could lose effectiveness only after 2 years? That seems very unlikely
