Hi,

been on finasteride(1mg) and nizoral 1% for about 3-4months. I'm 22 and a norwood 2.5.

before i started finasteride, i had an aggressively itchy scalp, mainly at the front and the vertex, were the thinning was occurring. When i used to itch, i can feel and see (in my fingernails) these little white ball things (about the size of sand grains) come out of my scalp (from the pores or roots, I dont know). The itch, and these white grain things, stopped after i started my combination of finasteride/nizoral.

Now, on my forth month in (after seeing abit of results), i have got the itch back, and these white things have came back as well. Also, im noticing that im sheeding more than usual. What do i do??? And what What are these white things called?? is this normal??

I dont know I have my doubts any shampoo will ever stop some of these scalp problems. I have the same problem. Shampoo doesnt fix it and it seems like every shampoo loses effectiveness after enough use. I think dutasteride or something that blocks 5 ar type 1 enzyme which supposedly effects sebum production rates and maybe dead skin cell turn over rates if thats actually in sebum might help. But with the importance of type 1 I dont think its safe to mess with that. The best solution as of today I guess is play with different shampoos and just deal with the itch. My guess is the itch is inflammation in some cases and in other cases it might just be dandruff. There could multiple things with the same symptoms.

I have found that since I stopped washing my hair every day, it does not itch anywhere near as much as it used to. I added Nizoral to the regimen just recently and have been using it twice per week with no conditioner. Other than that I wash and condition with my regular products only 1 other time per week.

I have no idea if this will have an effect on my hair growth results, but it's certainly bliss compared to that wicked itch I used to get even before getting out of the shower.

*lol* I wouldn't mind the itch if I wasn't losing hair as well - it feels good to scratch! But since I am using treatments I try to not scratch it at all for fear of destroying follicles even further. (or pulling out more hair)

As for the white dandruff sh*t, I don't think there's much you can do about it. If you are using treatments, there's bound to be some flaking here and there - sometimes it's really bad. I suppose it would be pretty noticeable if you had really dark hair, but I've never considered trying to fix it - I assumed it was unavoidable if you're using minoxidil.

Try Tricomin against the itching. It helps me a lot, though it is expensive.

Ok, ive been some reseach on google. conclusion below.

> Those little white ball things that i itch out off my head are actually sebum plugs. caused by sebum/dirt or deadskin/sebum.
> The ammount of sebum produced by your sebum glands, is proportional to the amount of dht in your scalp.
> Combination of excess (sebum/deadskin)/dirt block your hair follicle's and thins your hair.

So, basically, this means recently my DHT levels have increased. This is why im seeing excess sebum, and thus the itch.

Ok, now. Why did my finasteride stop working? did my body created immunity?? how can i get it to work again??

At four months, your body may still be flexing out the adjustment to the DHT suppression. The itch is probably not a good sign, but I wouldn't go heaving the bottle Finasteride into the trash yet if you're not getting your wiener limped by it.

Nizoral is hard to go wrong with unless it's literally inflaming your scalp or something.
