Is this too obvious thinning already? Should I be planning a new piece?

I've worn this for 3 months now. I really want to make it to October with this.

It seems like the knots are still there, but no hair. I've probably just ripped the strands broken. A few smaller dots like that have appeared close to the hairline as well (you can't probably see them yet).

Should I be worried? Can it get worse fast?

I would say yes. It's not a pleasant experience to be committed to wearing a system (ie you have shaved your head, you're trying to keep your hairloss private) if you find your piece deteriorating noticeably and you have no back-up. It's always better to have a piece in reserve. I know that isn't always possible if you are on a tight budget.

You may be able to make this last a bit longer, by moving the parting a bit to the side so that you can comb hair over the bald spot, or maybe by using a bit if Toppik. I don't think the deterioration will speed up. I'm not sure it will last till October though. Your first piece always has a tougher time than later ones, because you are still learning the routines and experimenting to some extent. Your next piece should last longer.

What do mean by you "just ripped the strands broken"? That sounds pretty violent. You have to remember that if you want a fine undetectable prosthetic it is going to be fragile and delicate.

You certainly have a bald patch developing there. Its happened to me and once it starts to tends to accelerate as you comb through.

As said, move the parting over and add some fibres if it gets more acute.

With some careful husbandry it should last another 4-months.

You might want to seal knots too to reduce the shedding.

Personally, always have two spares which I have built up over time. Initially, in my first year I was getting by with just the one for 14-months, but in the last few months of it, I had to move quick to have the comfort of a spare; but its definitely something to budget for if you commit to wear.
