Hi, Im an asian male, 20 and ive been expierencing major shedding thorughout my head everytime I go into the shower, comb or lightly pull my hair. My hairline though has not retreated like some male pattern baldness. I read somewhere that Telogen Efluvium occurs after a shock. I have been going thorugh some stress, however, I do not think was that bad. Another thing I thought of was that I run in races for my College and one particular race, I almost passed out. Could this be Telogen Effluvium?

It's impossible to say for sure what you're going through. The best thing to do would be to se a dermatologist.

Keep in mind that male pattern baldness generally involves individiual hairs becoming progressively thinner; if you are suffering from male pattern baldness, some hairs that come out of the shower might be thinner and lose their pigmentation. This miniaturization process and its effect on the top of the scalp (the sides and back are typically safe) are the two main indicators of male pattern baldness.

However, Telogen Effluvium can happen to any part of the scalp, so if the hair is less dense on the top of your scalp, it does not necessarily indicate male pattern baldness.

Like I said, the best way to know for sure would be to have a dermatologist look at your scalp. They don't know everything, but odds are they have diagnosed more cases of Telogen Effluvium and male pattern baldness than anyone here.

No. Stress related hair loss is mental stress, not physical.

No it can be physical just as much as mentally anything that puts a demand on the body and causes major stress could lead to T.E. One of the major things with T.E is woman who has just given birth and that puts a physical strain on the body.
