Is This Regrowth Or Miniaturization?

Little background info.....went through a telogen effluvium 18 months ago. Went to the Doctor and he said male pattern baldness as well. Put me on 1 mg of propecia a day. Once I took the propecia my hair began to shed heavily at the 3 month period for 3 or 4 months. I've now been on propecia for 15 months and when combing my hair back i see these little hairs sticking up with tapered ends. Little hairs everywhere. Trying to use my finger as contrast. I feel likes it's regrowth but it's been so long I don't if it's minaturized hair or regrowth. Some confirmation that my hair is regrowing would be great....lol....fingers crossed.

If the hairs were there before starting treatment then miniaturized, if not then it's regrowth. If you don't know, then we don't know.

if it tapers from the straight end down to the root, then miniaturization. if it tapers from the root to the end then that follicle is at the beginning stage of the anagen phase.

you'd have to establish some reference point from your baseline to determine whether or not you lost/gained any ground

First off I appreciate your replies. I know 100% my hair has thickened in the last 8 months since my last shed. The crown looks better for sure and even the temples slightly. I don't have baseline photos. I'm a little confused by your post @lickawrist? The "new" hairs are tapered at the ends of the strands. Thicker closest to the scalp and thinner at the opposing end. Really I'm just trying to figure out if I have more thicken to come.

All hairs are tapered at the end until they are cut, and all hairs are tapered at the root when ejected. You can't say for certain going by that. All you can know if it's tapered at the end is that it's a new cycle. You don't know if it's a new cycle of a previously thicker hair, or a thicker cycle of a previously thinner hair.

Well said and good answer. New cycle for sure. Im seeing lots of little hairs, fingers crossed that my head continues to thicken and these little hairs continue to add volume.

Good luck. Make sure you have pictures with solid reference points for comparison. Either way, that area should fill in nicely with continued treatment.

One thing for sure, im regrowing what I've shed. Just hope it's not nessasarly miniturized and that all these hairs do continue to grow and thrive. I've heard before that regrowth after telogen effluvium can start off as intermediate hair and can change into terminal after the it cycles through a few times. Has anyone heard of this also?

The above photos are to show the current status of my "new hair"? Sorry I'm still learning how to post photos on here.
