First is my left temple which I think is nw1. Would you say other is a 2 or could it pass as a 1.5?

I would say you are closer to a norwood 1 than a 2 imao.
I'm confused as to why the conceptualize images of the Norwood chart couldn't indicate well to people what degree of hair loss they have.

That's because it's only meant to give us an understanding of the most common hair loss pattern. I believe a Norwood 2 in one case might look different in another. I mean, let's say one has a large forehead to begin with, some slight recession is going to look worse.
