I have been experiencing diffuse hairloss/falling out and just generalised thinning. EVERY HAIR HAS A WHITE BULB AT THE END OF IT.

It started around over a month ago. And a LOT of hair suddenly started falling out ever since I got a haircut. But before that, around Late June. I started working out, a lot. I'm talking running a lot, sit ups, weight lifting. You name it. I lost over 30 kilos (66LBS) in 3 months basically. Also at the time, I sometimes slipped up on my diet, ended up binging on some food (pizza, kebab w.e) and then throwing it up. I'm not sure if this caused a nutritional deficiency in my body. Though, I wasn't eating veg, or fruit or anything of that. I was just eating like junk food. I was also undergoing some emotional stress at that time which may have contributed to it.

So now, my hair started thinning generally all around my scalp. I run my hand through my hair and a few hairs fall out. Every hair has a white bulb attached to the end of it. I went to my doctor (3 separate doctors, 3 separate times) 1 said that if it is hairloss there is nothing that can be done about it. Bear in mind this is the UK. The second doctor said it is not male pattern baldness but instead Telogen Effluvium. I don't know though. My hair is falling out regularly and a lot.. I'm really worried.

I'll post some pictures of my hairline too, if anyone could let me know what it is. I'd be really grateful. Is my hairline receding? There are several small hairs there too as you can see.

Here is a good publication on methods to differentiate from a reputable source.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16230561

On the hair pull test and MBP:
The patient who presents with gradual hair thinning most likely has male or female pattern hair loss recognized by the typical patterns. The hair pull test will be positive where the hair is thinning, but negative away from the thinning areas.

in Telogen Efflivium, it is common to see generalized hair loss, or hair loss located around the vertex and scalp more than anywhere else.
Other than that, I think that male pattern baldness tends to be gradual thinning, whereas Telogen Effluvium tends to be more abrupt.

I'm not an expert but that seems TOO aggressive for male pattern baldness. Telogen seems to fit better. Again, not an expert.

Step 1: See a dermatologist
Step 2: Enjoy a beer
