Is This male pattern baldness Or Telogen Effluvium? I Need Opinions.

I posted a forum here last year. Now, I've been trying minoxidil for about 12 days now. I think I'm experiencing the shedding phase since my hair has been coming off every time I shower. Though, they don't really come off and I never notice them anywhere. If I brush my hair on a white towel, I see maybe 1 to 4 hairs come off, but a lot comes off if I shampoo.

I want to know what you guys think. I'm 20.

Last year, I've lost so much weight from 103kg to 83kg. That's when my hair loss started. I'm somewhere around 75kg now. I've been trying to increase my kcal, but it helped for a bit, but no regrowth. My hair still grows longer, though. Also, been noticing tiny thin hairs coming off as well.

Um... I have suffered through Telogen Effluvium and mine looked a lot worse. It could possibly be androgenic alopecia, I guess it would be advisable to do something about it now if you are suspecting something.

Doesn’t even look like your balding to be honest. What’s your family history? Looks like a cowlick to me. Go see a derm! That’s what I did when I was freaking out.

1-4 hairs brushing over a white towel is completely normal. Actually very good standings. We lose 50-100 hairs a day. Remember that, doesn't look like balding stages. Go see the Doctor and just check up on it every 6 months if you're paranoid. This forum likes to blow things out of proportion.

My excessive hair fall did start after significant weight loss and my mom told me that everyone she's related to all have thick hairs. My grandfather also has thick white hair.

Also, yeah, I think I've noticed that spot on my scalp a long time ago when I was 14 or something. I only got into it when I experienced shedding aftet weight loss.

I've been using minoxidil and it made me shed a bit more, but now, that shedding phase is starting to slow down. I achieved my weight loss was restricting my kcal to just 1,500 per day.

Here's another picture.

Also, tell me, I've been using minoxidil twice a day for 16 days now. Experiencing the shed, but it's not too bad. Would my hair end up getting hurt if I just stop now? Like, just suddenly stop?

A calorie restriction to 1,500 per day is not enough to cause hair loss, in my opinion... When I began losing hair due to an eating disorder, I was consuming around 300 calories per day and fainted several times due to me burning so many calories without having the energy to do so. Other symptoms would come first before hair loss, such as feeling cold all the time and horrible fatigue.

I guess, but it's the fact I lost A LOT of pounds in just 3 months by basically eating as less as possible with only treadmill as exercise. Losing a lot of weight that quickly will cause hair loss, possibly even trigger male pattern baldness early. I'm checking a dermatologist tomorrow and have it confirmed whether my hair is thinning or just Telogen Effluvium.

If it's male pattern baldness, I'll immediately just shave my head so I wouldn't have to worry about anything anymore.

I think I'll stop minoxidil, as well. Been only 16 days and it's a hassle. No side effects experienced, so I hope I'm safe if I stop it.

Seeing a dermatologist is definitely the best option in cases like this. If it is androgenic alopecia, why would you shave your head...? Your hair is still thick, and you could just take finasteride to maintain what you have, or even dutasteride.

I just thought might as well get it over with.

But if I stop Minoxidil after 15 days of use with no side effects with only minimal shedding, will there be a negative effect in the long term?

Good news. So, I went to a dermatologist weeks ago, they said my hair did lose density and my hairline receded a bit, but they also found out that I'm a bit low in a few vitamins. Plus, the minoxidil kinda temporary increased the shedding I was supposed to experience. Turns out I thinned out on the sides and the back of my head near the nape, which they say isn't usually affected by male pattern baldness. They also explained why I get dizzy easily when I get up or why my lips are always chapped. I was a little low in iron, zinc and some others due to my fast weight loss and very strict calorie-restriction.

Some hairs on the front has grown longer, so I think I see regrowth. What do you guys think?

I know getting dizzy when standing up too fast is common, but I get it ALL THE TIME. My blood pressure was very low, now I'm trying out a healthier diet.
